Job Description
Are you technically skilled, hands-on and interested in data centre infrastructure, networks and electronics? For ING we are looking for a Data Centre Infrastructure Engineer to help manage and maintain Global Data Centres.
You will join a multidisciplinary and cross-functional team with end-to-end responsibility for Global Data Centres Services. Together with your colleagues and other teams, you will help ensure that the physical IT infrastructure is installed, maintained and documented to a high standard.
What will you do?
As a Data Centre Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for the physical deployment and maintenance of critical IT hardware, cabling and infrastructure. Your responsibilities include:
Installing, cabling and powering servers, storage and network equipment
Building and maintaining cold/hot aisle containment
Installing, testing and labelling structured copper and fibre optic cabling
Performing advanced fibre optic procedures, including fusion splicing and OTDR analysis
Installing cable tray systems and supporting the scalability of the physical infrastructure
Configuring server management interfaces, such as iLO and iDRAC, according to instructions
Troubleshooting Layer 1 and Layer 2 connectivity issues and resolving hardware faults
Using DCIM and ticketing systems for asset tracking and incident management
Documenting cable routes, asset data and changes
Leading projects, creating work instructions and performing quality assurance
Providing hands-on support where needed
Your working environment
You will be part of the Global Data Centres Services department and work within a team responsible for Global Data Centres Services and their delivery to the business.
The role covers the data centre locations in Rotterdam and Roosendaal. Due to the nature of the position, flexibility to work outside regular office hours and participation in the stand-by rotation are part of the role.
Requirements
What do you bring?
You work in a structured way, have an eye for detail and enjoy taking responsibility as part of a team. In addition, you have:
A diploma in IT, Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline
Good verbal and written communication skills in English
Dutch language skills are a strong advantage and are preferred, but not a hard requirement
Basic knowledge of electrical safety standards, preferably NEN 3140, with VOP as a minimum and VP preferred
A valid VCA certificate
A valid driving licence (B)
Willingness to travel between the data centre locations in Rotterdam and Roosendaal
Flexibility to work outside standard business hours when necessary
Willingness to participate in a stand-by rotation, approximately once every 4 to 5 weeks
A team-oriented mindset, hands-on attitude and strong attention to detail
Nice to have
It is an advantage if you have experience with one or more of the following:
Data centre infrastructure, including rack & stack, cold/hot aisle containment and structured cabling
Fibre optic installation, fusion splicing, OTDR testing and troubleshooting
SingleMode and MultiMode fibre, including OS2, OM4 and OM5
Troubleshooting at the physical and data link layers
Identifying and resolving connectivity issues such as loops, faulty ports, mismatched optics and signal degradation
Cable documentation standards and physical network design principles

A one-year contract through ITSync, with the possibility of extension. This position is structured as a temporary-to-internal employment arrangement, with the aim of transitioning into an internal ING position after 18 months.
A 36-hour working week with flexible working hours and a hybrid working model
A gross monthly salary between €3,872.12 and €5,500, based on 36 hours per week and depending on experience
Additional benefits, including holiday allowance, a 13th month and pension contribution
