Painter (Landscaping Industry)
About the role
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Painter to join our landscaping team. The Painter will be responsible for preparing, painting, staining, and finishing timber, metal, concrete, and other surfaces associated with landscaping projects. The role requires high-quality workmanship, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely in outdoor environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, scraping, filling, and repairing imperfections.
Paint, stain, varnish, and finish timber structures such as fences, pergolas, decks, gazebos, gates, screens, and garden features.
Paint metal structures, garden furniture, landscape fixtures, and other outdoor elements.
Apply primers, undercoats, sealants, protective coatings, and finishing products as required.
Select and mix paints, stains, coatings, and other materials according to project specifications.
Use brushes, rollers, spray equipment, and other painting tools safely and effectively.
Protect plants, lawns, paving, buildings, and other surrounding areas during painting work.
Carry out touch-ups, repairs, and maintenance painting as required.
Ensure painted surfaces have an even, clean, and professional finish.
Inspect completed work and rectify any defects or areas requiring additional coats.
Maintain painting tools, equipment, and materials in good working condition.
Keep work areas clean, organised, and free from hazards.
Follow manufacturer instructions when handling paints, solvents, coatings, and chemicals.
Follow workplace health and safety procedures and environmental requirements.
Work closely with landscapers, carpenters, supervisors, and other trades to complete projects on schedule.
Qualifications:
Certificate, diploma, or recognized vocational qualification in Painting, Decorating, Surface Finishing, or a related trade is preferred.
Relevant painting apprenticeship or trade training is an advantage.
Minimum 2–3 years of relevant painting experience, preferably in landscaping, outdoor construction, or property maintenance.
Practical knowledge of painting techniques, surface preparation, coatings, and finishing products.
Experience with outdoor and weather-resistant paints and protective coatings.
Relevant health and safety training is desirable.

Ability to accurately match colours and apply appropriate coatings.
Ability to safely use brushes, rollers, spray guns, sanding equipment, and other painting tools.
Good understanding of primers, sealers, stains, varnishes, and exterior paints.
Good attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to work outdoors in hot, humid, wet, or varying weather conditions.
Physically fit and able to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work at heights when required.
Ability to lift and carry painting materials and equipment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a landscaping team.
Good communication and time-management skills.
Reliable, punctual, and hardworking attitude.
Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
