About the opportunity:

We are seeking a Data Engineer

Reporting to the Manager, Data Systems, the Data Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining business intelligence solutions, crafting, and executing queries up request for data and presenting information through reports and visualization. OSL Retail Services is a collaborative, fast paced and innovative company, to be successful in this role you must thrive in a fast-moving, ever-changing environment.

Location: Mississauga (CANADA)

What you’ll do:

Translate business needs into technical specifications, working directly with stakeholders.

Design, build, and automate data flows that land data from varied sources (APIs, SaaS platforms, flat files, operational databases) into Postgres, handling incremental loads, deduplication, and schema drift.

Move and model data into our warehouse and build the analytical structures on top of it (OLAP cubes, semantic models) that let stakeholders’ self-serve.

Maintain and support our existing data workflows and reporting.

Write and optimize complex SQL and run the analyses that answer questions directly.

Unit-test your pipelines and troubleshoot failures by reading and interpreting error logs.

Collaborate with engineering, analytics, and business teams on system integrations.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

Excellent organizational skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

What you’ve done:

Proven experience as a Data Developer, analyst, engineer, or Data Scientist

Background in data warehouse design, dimensional modeling, and data mining

In-depth understanding of database management systems and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) frameworks.

Experience with Apache Airflow and Spark

Experience with RDBMS i.e., creating complex SQL queries, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

Knowledge of and experience with different data sources (SQL and NoSQL), programming (Python or R), XML, REST API and JavaScript,

Experience and comfort working with open-source tooling.

Linux OS background would be an added advantage.

Analytical mind with a problem-solving aptitude

BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field and or relevant knowledge with experience

Familiarity with data visualization tools

Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative and collaborative.

The salary for this role is $65K to $90K, with a yearly eligible bonus. Your final compensation will reflect your years of experience and beyond the numbers, we’re proud to offer a holistic package that includes:
