Position Description
Electrification of transport is a key pillar of ESB’s Net Zero 2040 Strategy – reducing the carbon impact from transport and improving air-quality while growing our business. ESB owns and operates a publicly available Electric Vehicle (EV) charging network on the island of Ireland and are currently upgrading and expanding the RoI, NI and UK networks.
The nature of the deployment means that a variety of locations will be progressed for installation, including roads, highways, Council and 3rd party land including petrol forecourts. The successful candidate will be required to provide expert electrical input to the designs, produce site-specific physical drawings of the development with associated design risk assessments, preliminary health and safety plans in addition to managing the network application processes.
The candidate may also be required on occasion to manage ESB’s subcontractors throughout the pre-construction and construction phases. Engagement in project management meetings, both internal and external facing and the ability to manage stakeholders effectively will be a requirement.
Key Responsibilities
Produce detailed electrical design packages for LV and MV-connected EV charging sites across Ireland, NI and the UK including system layouts, schematics, single-line diagrams, cable routing drawings, protection settings and equipment specifications.
Carry out electrical design calculations including cable sizing, load assessments and demand calculations.
Review and assess utility connection offers and technical requirements from ESB Networks, DNOs and ICPs.
Undertake site visits and surveys to assess design constraints and develop practical engineering solutions and liaise with Distribution Network Operators, utility providers, contractors, consultants, suppliers and local authorities as required.
Support project delivery teams during construction, commissioning and energisation activities and business development teams during contract development activities.
Support the continuous improvement and standardisation of ESB eCars design processes and technical standards.
Ensure all designs comply with applicable standards including IS 10101, BS 7671, ESB Networks requirements and relevant health and safety legislation.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
Degree in Electrical Engineering, energy systems or equivalent engineering qualification.
Minimum 3 years' experience in electrical design engineering or related field.
Strong understanding of electrical design principles and cable sizing, protection coordination and electrical calculations.
Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of IS 10101 and/or BS 7671 Requirements (or equivalent) for electrical installations.
Ability to produce high quality CAD design drawings using AutoCAD© design software.
Ability to work independently, take ownership of projects and manage competing priorities.
Full driving license and willingness to travel throughout Ireland and the UK.
Desirable
Knowledge & experience of EV charging infrastructure development.
Experience as MV or LV design engineer or civil/structural/construction engineer.
Strong stakeholder management abilities managing both client and subcontractor relationships.
Working knowledge and understanding of other engineering disciplines and their interaction with electrical requirements.
Location
This position will be based in Swift Square, Santry, Co. Dublin.
Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

Salary
€49,800 - €58,600 per annum (depending on experience)
