Job Opportunity:
Step into a high-impact role with BHSI’s Auckland Liability Claims team.
You will own a varied portfolio of liability claims across Professional Indemnity, Directors and Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Cyber, Financial Institutions and General Liability, driving matters from notification to resolution with service, accuracy and pace.
You will make clear coverage and reserving decisions, shape claim strategy, manage advisers and keep customers and brokers informed with practical, confident communication. You will also partner with underwriting and operations to convert claim insights into stronger decisions, sharper service and continuous improvement.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Own end-to-end management of liability claims from first notice through to resolution, in line with BHSI Claims Service Standards.
Analyse coverage promptly and fairly, draft clear coverage communications and escalate policy wording or underwriting intent issues where appropriate.
Assess exposure, set and maintain appropriate reserves, and report significant developments with clear rationale and commercial discipline.
Drive investigations, strategy and resolution by managing advisers, experts and vendors to achieve fair, pragmatic and commercially sound outcomes.
Build trusted customer and broker relationships through responsive, professional and transparent claims handling.
Maintain accurate claim files, share claim insights with underwriting, operations, legal and actuarial teammates, and contribute to process, system and learning improvements.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Key Skills
Technical claims judgment: strong coverage, reserving, investigation, negotiation and claims decision-making, applied practically and with confidence.
Customer and broker focus: a service mindset grounded in responsiveness, professionalism, transparency and respect.
Clear communication: the ability to translate technical issues into concise, practical messages for different audiences.
Commercial awareness: an understanding of how claims outcomes affect customers, brokers, underwriting, portfolio performance and the wider business.
Organisation and execution: strong prioritisation, accuracy and attention to detail in a varied, time-sensitive environment.
Learning mindset: curiosity, adaptability and commitment to building expertise across liability claims, systems, tools and market developments.
Qualifications & Experience
Relevant experience in liability lines such as Professional Indemnity, Directors and Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Cyber, Financial Institutions or General Liability.
Tertiary qualifications, ANZIIF membership, legal qualifications or other insurance-related credentials are desirable where they strengthen technical knowledge, claims capability or professional development.
