Your Opportunity:

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing Addiction Services across Alberta. As the Senior Consultant, you will lead and support complex, provincial initiatives that have a direct impact on addiction and mental health care. Reporting to Addiction Services Leadership through the Executive Director, the Senior Consultant supports the project management, planning, development, and coordination with senior leaders, government partners, clinicians, operational teams, and external stakeholders.

Description:

The Senior Consultant is a professional position responsible for supporting and leading complex provincial initiatives and projects sponsored by Addiction Services, including providing project oversight and implementation coordination for Compassionate Intervention and other strategic Addiction and Mental Health (AMH) priorities. Working with a high degree of independence, the incumbent leads, consults, coordinates, and organizes activities related to the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of provincial programs, services, and initiatives. The position is accountable for advancing multiple interconnected workstreams and coordinating stakeholders across operational, clinical, policy, legal, digital health, communications, education, and evaluation functions. The Senior Consultant serves as a key liaison among Addiction Services, Recovery Alberta, Health Shared Services, Government of Alberta ministries, operational leaders, physicians, and external partners. The role requires strong relationship management, facilitation, and influencing skills to build consensus, support cross-ministerial collaboration, and resolve complex issues across organizations with diverse priorities. The position develops and supports implementation plans, governance processes, briefing materials, reports, and recommendations that advance provincial program delivery and service improvement. The role requires demonstrated expertise in business analysis, project management, change management, and systems thinking. The incumbent must be able to work autonomously, navigate ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and deliver results within tight timelines while supporting complex initiatives that span multiple stakeholders, sectors, and jurisdictions.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a health-related discipline with coursework in business analysis, business process management, and/or project or change management. Minimum five (5) years' experience in Addiction and Mental Health care, health services planning, healthcare operations, or a related field, with a demonstrated pattern of progressive professional development. Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating complex provincial initiatives and implementation projects involving multiple stakeholder groups, competing priorities, and cross-ministerial and/or cross-sector collaboration. Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and deliver high-quality results within tight timelines and evolving environments. Experience coordinating stakeholder engagement and fostering collaboration across organizations, disciplines, and levels of leadership, including government and external partners. Demonstrated ability to facilitate complex discussions, build consensus, and influence outcomes without formal authority. A robust understanding of the AMH clinical practice environment is required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Certification or training in project management, change management, Lean, quality improvement, business analysis, or related methodologies is considered an asset.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in a health-related discipline, or a related field. Experience with addiction treatment services, recovery-oriented systems of care, or involuntary treatment initiatives. Experience leading provincial initiatives, service transformation or large-scale implementation projects. Experience provincial partners, or complex cross-ministerial initiatives. Knowledge of digital health, information-sharing processes, and clinical workflow redesign.

Compensation

This Consultant role pays $39k/yr. Within typical range for consultant roles in Canada.
