Senior Openshift Engineer
Skills
About the role
At least 10 years of IT experience & 5+ years of recent experience in OpenShift, preferably within the banking sector, with broad exposure to enterprise technology platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Design, architect, and operate enterprise scale Red Hat OpenShift (v4.x) platforms across on prem, private cloud, and managed OpenShift services (ARO, ROSA) for regulated banking workloads.
Define hybrid and multi cloud OpenShift architecture, integrating on prem OpenShift with cloud hosted clusters while maintaining security, compliance, and operational consistency.
Architect OpenShift solutions leveraging Azure Red Hat OpenShift (ARO) and Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA), including network connectivity, identity integration, and landing zone alignment.
Build, configure, and maintain OpenShift cluster infrastructure across bare metal, virtualized, and cloud environments, including networking, storage, ingress, and security integration.
Own the end to end lifecycle of OpenShift platforms: installation, upgrades, patching, capacity planning, scaling, and platform health management.
Act as a solution architect and technical advisor for container platforms, guiding application modernization and cloud native adoption strategies.
Design hybrid connectivity models between on prem and cloud OpenShift clusters using VPN, private connectivity (e.g., ExpressRoute / Direct Connect–aligned designs), and secure ingress/egress patterns.
Develop technical architectures, solution blueprints, and design documents for OpenShift based platforms and cloud integrated solutions.
Prepare and deliver technical proposals, architecture presentations, and platform roadmaps to architecture review boards, leadership, and key stakeholders.
Implement and manage OpenShift ecosystem components, including Operators, OperatorHub, OpenShift Pipelines (Tekton), GitOps (Argo CD), and Service Mesh (Istio).
Drive platform automation and standardization using Ansible, Terraform (where applicable), Bash, and Python across on prem and cloud OpenShift environments.
Enable and support CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows for cloud and hybrid OpenShift clusters, ensuring controlled and compliant deployments.
Integrate OpenShift with cloud native services and enterprise tooling, including identity providers, container registries, monitoring, logging, and certificate management.
Ensure security, risk, and compliance alignment across hybrid and cloud platforms, enforcing RBAC, network policies, cluster hardening, and banking regulatory standards.
Integrate and manage container and cloud security tooling, including image scanning, vulnerability management, and policy enforcement (e.g., ACS, Trivy).
Monitor and troubleshoot performance, availability, and reliability issues across on prem and cloud OpenShift clusters, providing root cause analysis and remediation.
Design and operate centralized observability solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, EFK/ELK) for hybrid OpenShift environments.
Plan and execute capacity and scaling strategies for OpenShift clusters across cloud and on prem platforms based on business demand and SLAs.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to OpenShift and platform engineers, promoting cloud and hybrid platform best practices.
Lead or support small platform engineering teams, including task planning, technical reviews, and skill development.
Collaborate with cloud, infrastructure, security, networking, SRE, and application teams to deliver secure, stable, and compliant OpenShift platforms.
Provide 24/7 production support and incident leadership, ensuring fast recovery and minimal impact to critical banking services.
Contribute to platform governance, standards definition, and continuous improvement of enterprise container and hybrid cloud platforms.
