Job Advert Summary

About the opportunity

We are seeking an experienced, intellectually curious and deeply engaged Life Sciences teacher to join our High School from January 2027. This is an opportunity for an educator who can make the living world feel exactly that - alive: rigorous enough to stretch strong thinkers, accessible enough to bring every student with them, and relevant enough to travel beyond the laboratory door.

The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner, a thoughtful colleague and an active contributor to the wider life of the school. They will combine strong FET and Grade 12 expertise with confident practical work, skilful use of educational technology and a genuine commitment to the academic, social and emotional development of young people.

Minimum Requirements

What you will bring

A relevant Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in Biological Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry or an equivalent field.

A recognised professional teaching qualification: PGCE or BEd specialising in the FET Phase.

Current SACE registration, or eligibility for registration.

At least six years’ successful experience teaching Life Sciences, with substantial experience in Grades 10–12.

A demonstrable record of preparing Grade 12 students successfully, supported by pass rates, quality results and distinction outcomes.

Strong working knowledge of the IEB curriculum and Subject Assessment Guidelines.

Experience designing and managing practical investigations, SBA tasks and varied forms of scientific assessment.

The ability to teach mixed-ability classes with both high expectations and humane, responsive support.

Confidence in the purposeful use of educational technology.

Highly advantageous: Experience as an IEB Grade 12 marker or moderator.

Who you are

You are fascinated by your subject and know how to make complex ideas clear without making them small.

You hold high standards while seeing the whole child - not merely the mark on the page.

You are reflective, collaborative and willing to learn, question and contribute.

You are committed to an inclusive school culture in which difference is respected and every student can belong and thrive.

You understand that independent-school teaching includes life beyond the timetable, and you enter that life with generosity and energy.

You act with integrity, sound judgement, warmth and professional courage.
