POSITION OVERVIEW

Mighty Machines is looking for an experienced General Manager – Manufacturing & Business Operations to take end-to-end responsibility for the company's plant operations and overall business execution at its Peenya facility.

The General Manager will act as a key link between Senior Management and the operating functions, ensuring that business commitments are converted into efficient manufacturing execution.

The role will have responsibility across:

Business Planning → Sales Coordination → Production Planning → Manufacturing → Quality → Procurement → Stores → Maintenance → Cost Control → Customer Delivery → Team Management

The ideal candidate should be capable of managing both the strategic and operational aspects of an engineering manufacturing business.

This is a senior leadership position requiring strong understanding of the precision engineering and heavy engineering manufacturing ecosystem.

FIELD OF EXPERIENCEMANDATORY PREFERRED INDUSTRY BACKGROUND

Candidates should ideally have 10–12 years of experience in engineering manufacturing, particularly:

Precision Engineering / CNC Machining / Heavy Engineering

The candidate should have significant exposure to manufacturing businesses involving engineered components rather than purely repetitive consumer manufacturing.

The candidate should understand the complete manufacturing cycle and be capable of discussing production capacity, machining costs, cycle times, tooling, quality and delivery with functional heads.

2. HEAVY ENGINEERING

Experience in manufacturing:

Large shafts

Eccentric shafts

Plain shafts

Rings

Flanges

Pins

Heavy industrial components

Large machined components

Rotating machinery components

will be highly preferred.

Experience in large-component, high-value and long-cycle manufacturing is particularly relevant.

3. FORGING & CASTING

Candidates with experience in:

Forging

Ring rolling

Forged shafts

Forged components

Castings

Cast-machined components

Heat treatment

Material traceability

Forging-to-machining processes

will be strongly preferred.

The candidate should understand the relationship between raw material/forging quality, machining, cost and final product quality.

4. WIND ENERGY / GEARBOX COMPONENTS

Candidates with experience in:

Wind turbine components

Windmill gearbox components

Gearbox components

Power transmission components

Large rotating components

Shafts

Industrial drivetrain components

will receive strong preference.

5. CRUSHER / MINING EQUIPMENT

Experience with:

Crusher machine components

Mining equipment

Heavy machinery

Wear-resistant components

Industrial equipment

will be considered highly relevant.

6. INDUSTRIAL MACHINERY & CAPITAL EQUIPMENT

Candidates from organizations manufacturing:

Industrial machinery

will be preferred.

7. MAKE-TO-ORDER / ENGINEER-TO-ORDER MANUFACTURING

Experience in:

Make-to-Order (MTO)

Engineer-to-Order (ETO)

Job-order manufacturing

Project manufacturing

Customized engineering components

Low/medium-volume manufacturing

High-mix manufacturing

is highly desirable.

Candidates from highly repetitive mass-production environments should have demonstrated adaptability to customized engineering manufacturing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Overall Plant & Business Operations

Take overall responsibility for day-to-day operations of the Peenya facility.

Translate management objectives into operational plans.

Ensure coordination between all functional departments.

Monitor overall plant performance.

Establish departmental targets and KPIs.

Drive accountability across functional heads.

Ensure business objectives are achieved within agreed timelines and budgets.

2. Manufacturing Operations

Provide leadership to:

Production

PPC

Quality

Maintenance

Stores

Procurement coordination

Engineering

Dispatch

Ensure:

Production targets

Machine utilization

Capacity utilization

Productivity

are continuously monitored and improved.

3. Production Planning & Delivery

Work closely with the Production Planning team to:

Review customer orders.

Establish realistic production schedules.

Monitor production against plan.

Identify bottlenecks.

Resolve capacity constraints.

Ensure material availability.

Prioritize critical orders.

Improve manufacturing lead time.

Improve on-time delivery.

The General Manager will have overall accountability for ensuring that customer commitments are operationally achievable.

4. Quality Management

Work with the Quality Head to ensure:

ISO 9001:2015 compliance

Reduction in rejection

Reduction in rework

Customer complaint reduction

Supplier quality improvement

Process quality

Final inspection compliance

Corrective and preventive action

Quality should be treated as a business KPI rather than only an inspection function.

5. Cost Management

Take ownership of manufacturing cost optimization.

Identify opportunities to reduce:

Material wastage

Scrap

Rework

Tooling costs

Machine downtime

Overtime

Energy consumption

Subcontracting costs

Inventory costs

Manufacturing lead time

Develop and implement cost-reduction initiatives without compromising quality or delivery.

6. Capacity & Productivity Improvement

Monitor:

Machine utilization

OEE

Capacity utilization

Manpower productivity

Production throughput

Bottleneck operations

Identify requirements for:

Additional machines

Automation

Outsourcing

Additional shifts

Manpower

Process improvements

Provide management with data-backed recommendations for capacity expansion and capital investment.

7. Procurement & Supply Chain Coordination

Work with Purchase and Stores to ensure uninterrupted availability of:

Raw materials

Forgings

Castings

Alloy steels

Special steels

Cutting tools

Fixtures

Consumables

Bought-out components

Monitor critical suppliers and ensure material availability aligns with production schedules.

8. Vendor & Supplier Management

Participate in evaluation and development of:

Raw-material suppliers

Forging suppliers

Casting suppliers

Heat-treatment vendors

Surface-treatment vendors

Machining subcontractors

Special-process vendors

Review supplier:

Quality

Cost

Delivery

Capacity

Responsiveness

9. Customer & Commercial Coordination

The General Manager should be comfortable interacting with customers and supporting business development.
