About the role

The Junior Staff Accountant role contributes to the efficiency of the Finance department by managing daily accounting tasks, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, account reconciliations, and month-end activities. This position provides support to the Finance team and assists with maintaining accurate and timely financial records and processes.

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to perform all job-related activities as outlined below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

1. Assist with accounts payable by acting as a backup for processing, verifying, and obtaining approval for invoices

2. Assist with payroll by acting as a backup for payroll processing and check printing.

3. Prepares annual 1099 forms.

4. Prepare monthly credit card reconciliations.

5. Prepare and record journal entries for month-end close, including depreciation, prepaid expenses, and other accruals.

6. Assist with purchasing by acting as a backup for the procurement of program and operational supplies

7. Prepare assigned balance sheet account reconciliation schedules.

8. Post accounts receivable transactions.

9. Perform work in collaboration with key stakeholders.

10. Assist on Ad hoc projects

11. Provide the required information on time and with a high degree of accuracy and transparency.

12. Ability to work independently and multi-task, with a strong attention to detail.

13. Ability to communicate effectively, excellent verbal and written communication skills.

14. Strong PC skills, including solid experience with standard Microsoft products, especially Excel.

15. Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective work relationships with coworkers, clients, members, providers, and customers.

16. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Qualifications:

Sufficient training and experience is required to demonstrate the ability to perform the above duties and responsibilities and to attain the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

2. 1 year of experience working in an accounting function.

3. Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger reconciliations, bank reconciliations, payroll support, and month-end close processes.

Preferred:

1. Degree in Finance or Accounting or a related field.

2. Experience serving a multinational, multicultural population.

3. Familiarity with Community Health Clinics and/or Indian Health Clinics or nonprofit healthcare organization.

Special Conditions of Employment:

1. Work Schedule: Monday – Friday – 8:00am to 5:00pm – On-Site

2. CPR/BLS certification: Maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), the American Red Cross, or an equivalent organization. Certification must include an in-person, hands-on skills assessment. Online-only certifications are not accepted.

3. Annual background checks: Consent to annual background checks as a condition of continuous employment, to ensure compliance with organizational standards and eligibility requirements.

4. For-Cause Drug Screening: Comply with drug screening requirements when initiated by the organization for cause, to support a safe, compliant, and drug-free workplace.

5. Ongoing Compliance Requirements: Maintain up-to-date compliance with all required annual renewals including professional licenses, certifications, physical examinations. TB testing, and mandatory regulatory trainings as assigned by the San Diego American Indian Health Center (SDCHC).

3. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for maintaining physical spaces, equipment, and supplies.

4. Uses all appropriate equipment and/or tools to ensure workplace safety.

5. Immediately reports unsafe working conditions.

1. Maintains privacy and security of all patients, employee, and volunteer information and access to such information. Such information is accessed on a need-to-know basis for business purposes only.

2. Complies with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations. Reports unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful behavior or activity.

Flexibility: Available for all shifts and, when required, able to work evenings and weekends
