About the role

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant, Revenue Accounting is responsible for the ownership, analysis, and reporting of revenue-related activities, with a primary focus on gross-to-net (GTN) accounting, customer program reserves, revenue recognition, and financial close activities. This role partners closely with Sales, Finance, Credit, Deductions, Customer Service, and Supply Chain teams to ensure accurate and timely recording of revenue-related transactions in accordance with U.S. GAAP (including ASC 606) and Company accounting policies.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working with large volumes of transactional data while driving process improvements and maintaining strong internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

Revenue and Gross-to-Net Accounting

Prepare and record monthly gross-to-net revenue accruals, including but not limited to:

Customer co-op advertising (COOP) programs and promotional allowances

Contractual deductions, including returns, Destroy-in-Field (DIF), and defective allowances

Non-contractual deductions, including shortages and penalties

Other customer-related incentive and deduction programs

Analyze actual claims and deductions against recorded accruals and recommend reserve adjustments as needed.

Own gross-to-net reserve methodologies and key assumptions supporting customer programs, deductions, returns, and allowances.

Perform retrospective analyses to evaluate reserve accuracy and recommend updates to methodologies based on historical claims experience and business trends.

Support monthly and quarterly revenue recognition and gross-to-net reporting processes, applying ASC 606 principles to customer arrangements.

Serve as a subject matter expert on ASC 606, review customer contracts, sales agreements, rebates, incentives, and promotional programs to determine appropriate accounting treatment.

Partner with Finance and business stakeholders to assess accounting implications of new commercial initiatives.

Perform trend and variance analysis to identify unusual activity and emerging risks, including timing differences such as the recognition lag applicable to non-contractual deductions.

Account Reconciliations and Close Activities

Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned revenue-related accounts

Research and resolve reconciling items on a timely basis

Ensure all reconciliations comply with company policies and internal control requirements

Participate in monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities and meet established reporting deadlines

Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation for management review

Credit and Deductions Support

Partner with Credit and Deductions teams to identify deduction recovery opportunities and implement process improvements.

Monitor deduction aging and identify exposures requiring reserve adjustments

Analyze deduction trends and identify potential risks impacting reserve adequacy or revenue recognition

Partner with Credit and Deductions teams to develop recommendations for recovery opportunities and process improvements

Review deduction activity to ensure proper accounting classification and financial reporting

Financial Analysis and Reporting

Develop monthly reporting packages supporting gross-to-net reserve balances and activity

Prepare analyses supporting management review of revenue-related reserves and customer programs

Collaborate with FP&A to forecast gross-to-net reserves, customer deductions, returns, and trade spend obligations

Identify key drivers affecting reserve performance and communicate risks and opportunities to management

Analyze customer program performance and provide actionable insights regarding financial exposure and reserve adequacy

Assist with forecasting and budgeting processes related to revenue deductions and reserve requirements

Provide ad hoc reporting and analytical support to Accounting, FP&A, and business partners

Compliance, Controls, and Audit Support

Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP and Company accounting policies

Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, analyses, and documentation

Execute key controls related to revenue accounting and gross-to-net processes

Assist with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance activities, including documentation and testing support

Process Improvement and System support

Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, and reporting accuracy

Participate in ERP, reporting, and system enhancement initiatives, including SAP-related projects

Help standardize reconciliation and reserve review processes across the organization

Lead process improvement initiatives focused on automation, standardization, and enhanced reporting capabilities

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required

CPA or CPA candidate preferred

Experience

3–7+ years of progressive accounting experience with focus on revenue accounting

Experience with revenue accounting, gross-to-net accounting, customer deductions, or trade spend accounting preferred

Experience in consumer products, retail, wholesale, or distribution environments strongly preferred

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, including ASC 606 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers)

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUPs, and data analysis

Experience with SAP strongly preferred; comparable ERP systems considered

Experience working with large datasets and customer deductions reporting

Accuracy and timeliness of monthly gross-to-net accruals

Quality and completeness of balance sheet reconciliations

Timely resolution of reconciling items and deduction-related issues

Effectiveness in supporting monthly and quarterly closes

Compliance with internal controls and audit requirements

Contributions to process improvements and automation initiatives

Environmental Factors:

Working conditions are normal for a home office environment.

Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.

Must be able to use a computer keyboard and view a monitor for extended periods of time.
