Matillion Data Engineer

The Matillion ETL / JAMS Platform data engineer is responsible for administering, supporting, securing, and maintaining the enterprise data integration and job scheduling environment. This role ensures reliable and efficient operation of Matillion ETL pipelines, JAMS scheduling workflows, and supporting automation scripts while providing high-quality production support.

The role requires strong hands-on experience with Matillion ETL, JAMS Scheduler, Snowflake, Python scripting, SQL, and enterprise production support. The individual will provide Level 2/3 technical support, troubleshoot complex data pipeline and scheduling issues, drive root cause analysis, and lead continuous improvement and automation initiatives.

The ideal candidate will be both technically hands-on and capable of leading a support function, coordinating with Data Engineering, Application improvements, Infrastructure, Cloud, and business teams to ensure timely resolution of incidents and reliable delivery of data workloads.

Responsibilities:

Platform Administration & Support

Administer and maintain the enterprise Matillion ETL environment, including projects, environments, jobs, components, connections, and configurations.

Monitor Matillion ETL jobs, data pipelines, and platform health to ensure reliable production operations.

Administer and support JAMS Scheduler, including jobs, schedules, dependencies, calendars, workflows, and execution configurations.

Monitor scheduled workloads and proactively identify job failures, delays, and dependency issues.

Troubleshoot Matillion ETL and JAMS issues and restore failed production processes within defined SLAs.

Manage platform changes, configuration updates, deployments, and production releases following enterprise change management processes.

Support integration between Matillion and enterprise data platforms, databases, cloud services, APIs, and file-based systems.

Maintain operational standards and ensure platform configurations follow enterprise architecture and security requirements.

Develop and maintain troubleshooting guides, runbooks, knowledge articles, and operational procedures.

Assist with Matillion version upgrades, configuration changes, and platform enhancements.

Python & Scripting / Automation

Develop and maintain Python scripts for operational automation, monitoring, job management, data validation, and troubleshooting.

Automate repetitive support and operational activities to reduce manual effort and improve reliability.

Develop scripts to monitor complex data engineering jobs and generate alerts for failures or abnormal conditions.

Build automation for operational reporting, log analysis, data validation, and production health checks.

Troubleshoot and enhance existing Python and shell scripts used in the data integration environment.

Promote automation and continuous improvement across the production support function.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

Coordinate day-to-day support activities and prioritize incidents based on business impact and severity.

Lead technical discussions and drive complex issues through resolution.

Lead post-incident reviews and identify opportunities for permanent fixes and process improvements.

Establish and promote best practices for production support, monitoring, automation, and operational readiness.

Communicate platform health, major incidents, risks, and improvement initiatives to technical and business leadership.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.

5+ years of experience in Matillion, Snowflake, or production support in an enterprise environment.

Strong hands-on experience with Matillion ETL.

Strong hands-on experience with JAMS Scheduler or similar enterprise scheduling/workload automation tools.

Strong Python scripting experience with the ability to develop and troubleshoot automation scripts.

Strong experience with SQL and relational/cloud databases.

Experience supporting enterprise ETL/ELT and data integration pipelines.

Experience troubleshooting production data pipelines, batch jobs, scheduling failures, connectivity issues, and performance problems.

Experience with incident management, problem management, change management, and root cause analysis.

Experience providing L2/L3 production support in a highly available enterprise environment.

Demonstrated experience taking a technical lead role, coordinating support activities, and driving issues to resolution.

Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced production environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Matillion integration with Snowflake or other cloud data warehouses.

Experience with JAMS Enterprise Job Scheduler administration.

Experience developing monitoring and operational automation using Python.

Experience with ITIL and enterprise change/incident management processes.

Cloud or data engineering certifications are a plus.
