WHO YOU ARE:

You are a strong UI Tax team member who is ready to take that next step and supervise a team. You have good organizational skills, a

strong attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple priorities while meeting strict deadlines.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The UI Field Tax Supervisor (Accounts Examiner V) performs advanced and/or supervisory (senior-level) accounts examination work. Work involves planning, developing, and recommending techniques and procedures for carrying out audits, examinations, and investigations of financial accounting records; and overseeing accounts examiners engaged in audits of financial records, fiscal statements, and operating reports to ensure legal compliance, verify questionable reports, and/or establish tax liability. May assign and/or supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative or independent judgment.

YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO:

Supervise a UI Tax team, plan and assign their work, and achieve goals and standards of the Tax Department.

Review and evaluate quality and volume of work produced by assigned personnel to determine accomplishment of goals and prepare performance appraisals based on review of work produced.

Determine training needs, prepare training materials and conducts training.

Oversee the preparation of written reports; recommend and perform personnel actions.

Assist Regional Tax Director in planning and coordinating operations of the regional and/or local tax office.

Assist Accounts Examiners in conducting complicated audits, conducting lengthy and complex investigations, and handling difficult collections.

Assist employers by answering questions regarding the Texas Unemployment Compensation Act (TUCA) and the application of state and federal payroll laws.

Speak at seminars and conferences.

Testify at hearings and before courts as necessary.

Perform other duties as assigned.

YOU QUALIFY WITH:

Five years of full-time experience in maintaining accounting records or performing auditing work.

Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.

YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH:

Experience in a UI Field Tax Office as an Accounts Examiner.

Experience interpreting the Texas Unemployment Compensation Act.

Experience reviewing the detailed work of Tax Accounts Examiners.

Experience in preparing and presenting Tax-related training.

Windows-based personal computer programs experience, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Experience in supervision.

Duty involves up to 10% travel within the state of Texas and the ability to lift 15 pounds. This position generally requires the routine operation of a personal vehicle in the performance of job duties and thus requires possession of a valid driver’s license and liability insurance as required by state law. Requires non-agency owned transportation to make timely in-person contacts with employers at their residence or worksites that are not required to and may not meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) specifications.
