About the role
Moore & Van Allen PLLC, a dynamic and fast-growing full-service law firm of more than 400 attorneys and professionals, is seeking a talented BI/Data Engineer to join our growing team in our Charlotte, NC office. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining the firm's financial data infrastructure, building scalable data pipelines, integrating enterprise systems, and ensuring trusted, high-quality data is available for reporting, analytics, and business decision-making.
In this role, you will help drive the evolution of our data platform by integrating multiple financial and business systems into a Microsoft Fabric environment. Working closely with Finance Systems, FP&A, IT, Business Intelligence, and firm stakeholders, you will enable reliable, automated reporting and advanced analytics that support strategic decision-making across the organization.
What You'll Do:
Data Engineering & Platform Development
Design, build, and maintain enterprise data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
Develop integrations between on-prem and cloud-based financial systems.
Build and support the firm's financial data warehouse and Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse environment.
Optimize data pipelines, queries, and architecture for scalability, reliability, and performance.
Monitor and troubleshoot production data processes and pipeline issues.
Business Intelligence & Analytics Support
Partner with Finance, FP&A, and Business Intelligence teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Ensure high-quality, trusted data is available for dashboards, analytics, and reporting.
Support the migration of legacy reporting and integration processes into the Microsoft Fabric platform.
Collaborate closely with Financial Systems and Power BI development teams to enable automated reporting and advanced analytics.
Data Governance & Security
Implement and maintain data governance, security, and access controls.
Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency through automated validation and monitoring processes.
Document data architectures, data flows, technical standards, and operational procedures.
Partner with infrastructure, application, and security teams to ensure reliable and secure data services.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
Stay current on Microsoft Fabric capabilities and emerging technologies.
Recommend enhancements that improve efficiency, scalability, and user experience across the firm's data ecosystem.
What We're Looking For:
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.
3-5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, or related roles.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Microsoft Azure data services.
Strong SQL development and database design skills.
Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines.
Experience working with relational databases and data warehouse architectures.
Familiarity with source control, CI/CD, and automated deployment practices.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Enterprise implementation experience with Microsoft Fabric.
Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Engineer, or other relevant Microsoft certifications.
Experience with Power BI semantic models and report performance optimization.
Familiarity with financial systems such as Aderant, Elite 3E, SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP platforms.
Experience within a professional services or law firm environment.
Understanding of financial accounting, budgeting, profitability reporting, and related financial concepts.
Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and master data management practices.
