Your Opportunity:

Your opportunity is in the 19 bed Transition Care Unit at the QEII Ambulatory Care Centre to support patients as they transition from acute care to another level of care or to return home. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team with a strong focus on collaboration both within the larger care team and other community providers as appropriate to provide the best care during stay and upon discharge. Reporting to the Area Manager Allied Health, you will be responsible for designing and delivering an active, creative, client centered and engaging program that is evidence based. The position involves assessment, program development, provision of patient care, supervision of therapy assistants and volunteers, and participation in program evaluation. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Recreation Therapist II, you will take a leadership role in ensuring that the level of therapeutic recreation practice in your clinical area is evidence based, patient-and family-centred and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will provide clinical leadership to ensure safe and efficient care as well as coordinate the assessment, treatment, education and care of the patient (client, resident). You will participate in program development to ensure effective delivery of services, including the development of protocols, forms, education, and quality improvement initiatives. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Minimum three years' related clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Baccalaureate in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies or meets the criteria for a professional membership with the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association. Active member of the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association. Demonstrated professional competencies (assessment, intervention/treatment planning, supervision/leadership to a therapy team, critical thinking, judgment, documentation, research, evaluation, program development, case management, etc.). Previous experience as a Recreation Therapist developing and providing functional intervention, leisure education and recreation participation in a variety of clinical and community settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Connect Care charting preferred. Current BLS Health Care provider Level C is preferred. Previous experience with Type A and/or Type B settings is preferred.
