We’re responsible for all copy across channels, translating the big ideas of the season into compelling marketing copy that’s inspirational, on-brand and creates desire for our products.

Overview of the Copywriter role

The Copywriter develops engaging, on-brand copy across West Elm and West Elm Kids marketing channels, including digital, email, social, paid media, catalog, retail, and site experiences. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Copy, this role helps bring seasonal campaigns and product stories to life through compelling, customer-focused storytelling.

Working closely with Creative, Marketing, Merchandising and Digital teams, the Copywriter translates campaign strategies, creative briefs and product information into clear, distinctive copy that reflects West Elm’s evolving voice. This role requires excellent writing craft, strong editorial judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt messaging across multiple channels while maintaining a consistent brand voice.

Responsibilities

Brand Voice & Editorial Excellence

Apply West Elm’s voice, tone and editorial standards consistently across all work, working in partnership with Senior Manager, Copy

Tailor messaging appropriately by audience, placement and channel while maintaining a cohesive brand experience.

Self-edit all work for clarity, grammar, product accuracy and consistency before stakeholder review.

Flag inconsistencies in messaging, product information, or customer experience.

Copy Development

Develop compelling copy across email, homepage, site experiences, paid media, social, catalog and retail collateral.

Own day-to-day copy development for West Elm Kids across all assigned marketing channels.

Write homepage, landing page, buying guide and evergreen site copy.

Develop copy supporting seasonal campaigns, collaborations and product launches across customer touchpoints.

Translate product information, creative briefs, and campaign materials into engaging customer-facing storytelling.

Apply customer insights and performance learnings to strengthen future messaging.

Support ad hoc creative requests across the Marketing organization.

AI-Enabled Workflow

Use approved AI tools to support research, ideation, editing and production workflows.

Apply human editorial judgment to all AI-assisted copy.

Contribute feedback to improve prompt libraries and AI-enabled copy systems developed by the Senior Manager.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

3+ years of writing experience on site and for email marketing, ideally for a retailer, agency or brand creative team

Experience working within a project management system or managing copy projects from ideation to execution

Ability to think conceptually, ensuring creative tone/voice support the brand voice and key objectives of the season - and are appropriate for all channels

Strong writing and editing skills

Ability to adapt voice and messaging across multiple channels and customer touchpoints

Self-starter, ability to stay focused in an extremely fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Excellent organization and prioritization skills, ability to handle multiple projects across several seasons/packets/channels

Teamwork, project management skills, and creativity are a must

Possess a creative, positive and flexible attitude

Familiarity with AI writing tools is a plus

Experience or interest in home decor or design preferred

Ability to perform work onsite in the Brooklyn office

This role requires being onsite in the New York office.

The expected starting pay range for this position is $65,000-$80,000. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
