Job Purpose
Contribute to the Department and Faculty’s goals in teaching, research, community engagement/administration, and work integrated learning.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Lecturer
A Master’s degree in Nutritional Sciences or equivalent
Base qualification in Consumer Science or equivalent
At least two years' working experience one of which must be in teaching
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Ability to teach and assess various topics in the Consumer Science Programme, specifically Nutrition, Food Science (with basic culinary/practical experience), New Product Development, Food-related legislation (e.g. labelling, food hygiene, health and safety) in line with relevant legislation, Research Methodologies, Sensory Evaluation, Quality Control
Curriculum and programme development
Quality Assurance
Evaluation and development of learning material
Academic administration
Academic development and management
Monitor and assess work integrated learning
Industrial alliance and partnerships and community engagement
Research record
Assist with marketing and recruitment strategies
Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department
Competencies
Excellence in Teaching and Learning, with a track record and evidence of diligence
Proficiency in English
Problem solving through analytical engagement with the wider academic project
Professional and scientific writing
Self-motivated and innovative
Presentation skills
Department and Programme Administration - Knowledge of curriculum design and development
Student support and development - proven record in tracking student progress, supporting and coaching underperforming students
Liaising with and reporting to institutional bodies and committees
Sourcing, preparing motivation for, and securing research funding
A track record of research leadership and competence in conceiving research projects by identifying needs in the Food and Nutrition sector
Excellent organisational and planning skills to coordinate postgraduate and undergraduate supervision
Ability to work within a diverse team of academics and laboratory technicians
