About the opportunity

The School of Mathematics and Statistics is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in spatial omics, artificial intelligence and computational pathology.

The role will develop and apply computational methods for analysing kidney biopsy data, integrating histology, spatial organisation and molecular information to improve diagnostic and prognostic assessment of kidney function. The successful applicant will work with an interdisciplinary team across statistics, bioinformatics, pathology and nephrology, contributing to open-source methods, publications and translational research.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

develop and apply computational methods for analysing spatial omics and histology data from kidney tissue

integrate imaging and molecular data to study how spatial patterns within tissue relate to graft health and disease

work with clinical collaborators to ensure methods are aligned with pathological interpretation and clinical workflows

contribute to the supervision and mentoring of PhD and Honours students within the group

prepare high-quality publications and present research findings at national and international conferences.

About you

a PhD in bioinformatics, data science, computer science, statistics, biomedical engineering or a related field

strong programming skills in R or Python

experience working with spatial omics data, histopathological data, or related large-scale biological datasets

ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary research team

strong written and verbal communication skills.

Applicants who demonstrate the following will be highly regarded:

experience working with spatial omics or spatially resolved data in tissue

experience applying AI or machine learning methods to digital pathology or histology data

experience analysing kidney or transplant-related datasets, or familiarity with renal pathology

demonstrated interest in clinical, translational and commercial applications.
