Summary of the role:

The Senior Social Worker is an experienced and competent professional with sound psychosocial skills and academic ability along with good organisational skills. They will be responsible for delivery of palliative care social work supports in line with the organisation's strategy and CORU standards. The Senior Social Worker will work as part of an interdisciplinary and palliative care to children with life limiting conditions and support to their whole family at all stages of the palliative care journey from intake prior to death and into bereavement.

This position, of which a senior social work qualification is needed plays a key role in supporting children and families in the process of adjusting to an altered future as a result of meeting palliative care interventions. The position seeks to support with all the social, practical and emotional implications this entails in keeping with the overall goal of paediatric palliative care in addressing psychological, social, and spiritual concerns from a family and child centred perspective. The Senior Social Worker will work closely with parents, siblings, and children with complex care/ palliative care needs. Their work will be in the hospice and community setting.

They will have responsibility for Psychosocial assessments, goal setting and delivering targeted supports related to the palliative care needs identified. Other core tasks include counselling, psychosocial support of children, families / carers, advocacy, liaison with external teams, care planning and case management.

The post has specific responsibilities of child protection and welfare and safeguarding of vulnerable persons at risk of abuse.

The Senior Social Worker will collaborate with the Family Support Team Manager to support the development and expansion of high quality, integrated family support services in paediatric palliative care throughout the services national reach for children and families under its care.

Essential Criteria - the successful candidate will possess the following:

Masters in Social Work

3+ years postgraduate work experience in social work role

Registered with CORU

Experience in palliative care and/or experience working with bereaved families

Evidence of working effectively within an interdisciplinary team

Experience of service development assessment and evaluation
