We are seeking an experienced and curious Data Analyst to join the Market Systems team within ASIC's Markets Group. This is an opportunity to work with large and complex datasets, contribute to markets systems, data and technology projects, and provide insights that support ASIC's understanding of financial markets, products and participant behaviour. You will work across stakeholders, systems and data to deliver meaningful outcomes that contribute to ASIC's regulatory priorities.

The team
Market Intelligence sits within the Markets Systems team in ASIC's Markets Group. The Markets Group is responsible for ensuring investors have confidence in Australia's financial markets and that market participants, infrastructure providers and gatekeepers operate with integrity, resilience and transparency. The Markets Group regulates financial markets and participants by closely working with government, industry and internal stakeholders to support market integrity, resilience and transparency.
The Market Intelligence team develops and maintains the systems, datasets and tools that enhance the capabilities of the Markets Group - uplifting AI usage, data mindset, strategy and culture across the division. The team also support evidence-based market structure policy making, thematic reviews and innovative research on market structure and integrity issues.
The role
As a Data Analyst, you will provide technical and analytical support across markets data, systems and technology initiatives. You will work with large and complex datasets to deliver insights, improve data capability and support evidence-based regulatory decision making. In this role you will also:
Identify new and innovative ways to use data and AI to support ASIC's priorities, including the effective collection, management, analysis and communication of insights from data.
Acquire, ingest, model and maintain large datasets from multiple sources to enhance regulatory understanding of financial markets, products and participant behaviour.
Conduct quantitative market analysis, thematic reviews and develop methods and tools to monitor market integrity metrics.
Prepare reports, briefings, presentations and data visualisations that communicate complex information clearly and support regulatory insights and outcomes.
Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and respond to requests for specific data and information in a timely and accurate manner.
Support data and analytics projects, including advice on data pipelines, system architecture, data quality, governance, modelling and processes to collect, clean, maintain and analyse data.
About you
You will bring relevant qualifications in a quantitative discipline such as finance, statistics, mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering or actuarial studies, together with experience working in an analytics role in a corporate, consulting, government or academic environment. You have strong statistical, programming and quantitative skills, ideally including R or Python, with knowledge of KDB and Q viewed favourably. You are confident working with large, complex datasets from multiple markets, vendors and proprietary sources, and can apply different technologies to collate, clean, process and analyse data efficiently and effectively.
You are a strong communicator who can distil and present analysis in a clear, concise and intuitive way for a range of audiences. You bring sound judgement, analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills, supported by business acumen and an understanding of Australian financial markets and the regulatory environment. You can adapt quickly to new requirements, show initiative, engage with multiple stakeholders and projects, and take responsibility for delivering high-quality outcomes.

Compensation
This Data Analyst role pays $128k-$149k/yr. Within typical range for data analyst roles in Australia.
