Job Description
ALTEN Ltd is seeking a talented Software Engineer with LabVIEW experience to support the development of advanced electric propulsion technology for next-generation fully electric aircraft.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a cutting-edge engineering programme, combining front-end and back-end development with real-world applications in a highly innovative and fast-paced environment focused on sustainable aviation.
Location: Bicester
On Site: Hybrid (3days on site)
Clearance: Clearable
Experience Level: Junior to mid (2-3 years)
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain software solutions using LabVIEW and other programming tools
Contribute to both front-end (UI/UX interfaces) and back-end (core system logic, data processing) development
Support the design and development of software architecture
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including hardware, systems, and test engineers
Develop test rigs, data acquisition systems, and automation tools
Ensure code quality through testing, validation, and documentation
Support integration and testing activities within a structured engineering environment
Qualifications
Required Skills:
Proven experience with LabVIEW (essential)
Strong background in software engineering principles
Experience in both front-end and back-end development
Knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, or data acquisition systems is highly desirable
Familiarity with languages such as Python, C/C++, or similar is a plus
Experience working in engineering, aerospace, automotive, or other high-tech industries
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
Proven hands-on experience with LabVIEW (essential)
Solid understanding of software development lifecycle and best practices
Experience in both front-end and back-end development
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, engineering-driven environment
Desirable Skills:
Knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, or data acquisition systems
Familiarity with Python, C/C++, or similar programming languages
Experience in aerospace, automotive, or other high-tech industries
Experience with electric motors, power electronics, or embedded systems
Understanding of real-time systems and hardware integration
Knowledge of verification & validation processes
Exposure to agile development methodologies
