We are seeking a Senior Data Analyst to support the Australian Signals Directorate Australian Signals Directorate in delivering advanced data science, data engineering, and analytics capabilities within secure, mission-critical environments. The role focuses on transforming complex, multi-source datasets into actionable insights that enable intelligence and cyber security outcomes. You will work within multidisciplinary teams to design, build, and optimise scalable data solutions, including data pipelines, analytical models, and automated workflows. This position also involves collaborating with stakeholders to translate operational requirements into effective technical solutions while ensuring compliance with strict security, governance, and ethical data handling standards. This role will be a 12-month, fixed-term contract based in Canberra.

Requirements

What you’ll do

Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines, data models, and analytical workflows to support end-to-end data processing and insight generation.

Analyse and correlate large, disparate datasets to identify trends, anomalies, patterns, and intelligence-relevant insights.

Develop and optimise graph database solutions (e.g., Neo4j) and relational data structures to support complex querying and relationship analysis.

Apply advanced analytical techniques including machine learning, clustering, classification, and predictive modelling to support decision-making.

Build automation and scripting solutions (e.g., Python, Linux, ElasticSearch, Apache NiFi) to improve efficiency and repeatability of data processes.

Provide SME advice on data approaches, analytical methods, and interpretation of results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Ensure data solutions meet security, ethical, and governance requirements in line with Defence and ASD policies.

Collaborate with stakeholders to translate operational requirements into scalable analytical and data engineering solutions.

Support continuous improvement of data capability, tools, and methodologies within the team.

What you’ll bring

5+ years’ experience in data science, data engineering, or advanced analytics in complex or mission-critical environments.

Strong hands-on experience with graph databases (Neo4j), including modelling relationships and writing efficient, performance-optimised queries.

Proven ability to integrate, clean, and correlate large-scale, disparate datasets from multiple sources.

Solid programming skills in Python and experience with data processing tools and environments (Linux, ElasticSearch, Apache NiFi).

Experience applying machine learning and statistical techniques to solve real-world analytical problems.

Strong understanding of data engineering principles, including pipeline development, automation, and scalable data architecture.

Ability to communicate complex analytical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Experience working in secure environments with strong awareness of data governance, privacy, and compliance requirements.

Collaborative mindset with experience working in multidisciplinary teams and delivering under operational constraints.
