The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Division

An exciting opportunity exists to join the new Strategy and Secondary School Reform Group in a key role supporting the Pathways Insights team in the Senior Secondary Pathways Reform Division.

The Senior Secondary Pathways Reform Division (SSPRD) was established in 2021 to lead a generational reform agenda in response to the 2020 Review into Vocational and Applied Learning Pathways in Senior Secondary Schooling. These reforms collectively support all Victorian secondary students to pursue high-quality and valued vocational pathways aligned to their strengths and interests and to finish schooling with the skills and capabilities they need for success in further education, training, work, and life.

The SSPRD includes 14 high performing and highly interdependent teams within four branches led by an Executive Director.

About the Role

This is a fixed term, full-time role till 01-APR-2027.

In this key role, your core work will involve analysing data to generate actionable insights from a dynamic linked dataset. Collaborating closely with a dedicated project team, your expertise in data analysis will be essential in ensuring our solutions effectively address user needs and are delivered on schedule.

Attributes

We are seeking an experienced data and analytics professional with strong technical capability and demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills. The ideal candidate will have experience in:

Leading complex data analysis, integration, and linkage projects using R and/or Python and SQL

Engaging and influencing senior stakeholders, including executives, through clear and structured communication of insights

Operating effectively in complex data environments with competing priorities and delivery deadlines

Working collaboratively with policy and program experts to shape analytical questions, ensuring outputs align with policy objectives and decision-making needs.

Designing, developing, and maintaining dashboards and reporting solutions (e.g. Power BI or similar BI tools)

Your responsibilities will include:

Developing clean, maintainable, and testable code to support robust analytical and reporting solutions, including statistical analysis of multiple variables within complex datasets

Ensuring analytical and reporting products are delivered on time and meet quality and governance standards

Translating complex analytical outputs into clear, concise, and actionable insights for senior stakeholders

Contributing to the development of divisional data capability and literacy

Engaging in peer code reviews, and mentoring junior analysts

Executive reporting, governance coordination, and briefing preparation within government or large organisations

Leading end-to-end development, deployment, and maintenance of dashboards and reporting products

Delivering coordinated reporting outputs and briefings for executive boards and senior leadership

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

Data engineering using Python and/or PySpark, including data pipeline development and transformation workflows

Wo rking with sensitive or secure data environments, such as the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Datalab

Using Microsoft Azure Databricks for large-scale data processing and analytics

Working with Department of Education Victoria data or similarly complex government datasets

Data governance, privacy, and data sharing frameworks, including applied experience in regulated environments

A relevant tertiary qualification in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline.

Leveraging AI responsibly to streamline repeatable analytical, reporting, and data management tasks, improving efficiency while maintaining quality, transparency, and governance standards
