Reimagine the future of drug discovery by applying cutting-edge artificial intelligence to some of the most complex challenges in biomedical research. As a Senior Specialist Data Science & AI, you will help translate critical scientific questions into impactful data science solutions that accelerate innovation across Novartis’ research pipeline. Working at the intersection of science, technology, and collaboration, you will partner with leading researchers, artificial intelligence specialists, and cross-functional teams to shape scalable solutions that improve discovery, enable smarter decisions, and ultimately help transform patient outcomes.

AI4R partners with drug discovery teams, raises the level of AI expertise across BR, and ensures that BR science keeps up with the rapidly evolving ecosystem of AI technologies by connecting with AI leaders in academia and industry.

This role within the Scientific Innovation group of AI4R will be tasked with ensuring scientific rigor and innovation for AI applications and methods for drug discovery. Additionally, the role would be expected to act as the SME liaison of AI4R to BR Disease Areas (DAs) and Function Areas (FAs).

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

Translate complex biomedical research questions into actionable artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions

Partner with scientists and domain experts to identify high-impact opportunities for artificial intelligence in drug discovery

Collaborate with AI modelers to design, validate, and optimize robust and scalable predictive models

Work closely with engineering and product teams to deliver production-ready artificial intelligence solutions

Drive scientific rigor and innovation in the application of advanced analytics across research programs

Act as a liaison between AI for Research and Biomedical Research stakeholders to ensure alignment and impact

Communicate insights, results, and value of artificial intelligence applications to diverse scientific and leadership audiences

Co-create and lead collaborations across disease areas and functional teams to accelerate discovery outcomes

Define and implement meaningful metrics to evaluate model performance and real-world research impact

Stay current with emerging artificial intelligence trends and translate them into practical research applications

Essential Requirements

5+ years of experience applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to scientific or biomedical research problems

Proven expertise in translating complex research questions into scalable analytical and predictive solutions

Domain knowledge in drug discovery such as target identification, computational chemistry, or translational medicine

Strong experience in model development, validation, deployment, and real-world adoption of machine learning solutions

Deep understanding of drug development processes and applying advanced analytics within large research organizations

Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and influence stakeholders at multiple organizational levels

Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to drive alignment and results

Demonstrated ownership mindset with the ability to prioritize and execute in complex, matrixed environments

Desirable Requirements

Experience collaborating with academic or industry leaders to advance artificial intelligence innovation in biomedical research

Exposure to cross-functional product or engineering environments supporting scalable digital solutions for research teams

Expected Annual Base Salary Range for role:

Dublin: 63,490.00 - 117,910.00 EUR Annual

The salary offered is determined based on gender-neutral objectives, such as relevant skills, competencies and experience in accordance with the Novartis pay setting policy and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically.

In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for a performance-based bonus depending on certain performance parameters. Further details will be provided during the application process.
