About the role
Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join the Data Center Power and Control ZPE Systems Team. The engineer will work with the Nodegrid OS team in Blumenau, SC, Brazil, interacting with colleagues from all over the world (mainly USA and India) in a highly collaborative environment. They will develop and maintain a world-class family of products deployed across network infrastructures from hundreds of companies globally, including some of the world’s top tech giants. We’re interested in seeing them, with time, take full ownership of one or more areas of responsibility of the software development team, helping improve the fundamental efficiency and quality of ZPE’s product lines and internal processes.
The engineer will be responsible for some of the following activities, according to their interests, skills, and company demands:
Develop and maintain software for Nodegrid OS (an embedded Yocto-based Linux system) using programming languages such as C, C++, Python, JavaScript (NodeJS), Bash, among others,
Support the development and debugging of network protocols and services,
Research, design, and propose appropriate technical solutions to implement new features requested by the product team, producing Feature Specification documents in Confluence,
Maintain open-source third-party software packages, including upgrading and security scanning,
Properly test implementations - including writing and executing automated software tests with test frameworks such as Jest, Yocto’s ptest, bats, and Robot/Jenkins - before handing over to the Quality Assurance team,
Work together with the Quality Assurance team to ensure implementations are validated correctly,
Contribute to improving the internal tooling and workflows of the development team, such as tweaking internal scripts and pipelines, researching code quality tools, improving internal documentation, and experimenting with AI tooling,
Provide expert-level support to the Customer Support and Sales Engineering teams,
Mentor other interns, juniors, and mid-level engineers,
Communicate regularly with the Scrum team and Project Manager, as well as accurately registering task status in Jira.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field. Differentials: Linux or network-related certifications; Pursuing or completed master’s or Ph.D. degree; Other higher education courses.
Experience:
At least 3 years of professional software development experience. 5+ years and a previous role as senior or midlevel developer is desired.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
These are the minimum skills we’re looking for in a good candidate. Outstanding candidates will have excellent knowledge/experience in one or more of these topics or adjacent skills:
Proficient with writing code in at least one of the following programming languages: Bash, Javascript. (NodeJS), Python, C, C++.
Proficient with Linux command line as a user or server administrator.
Experience with Yocto or Buildroot is a differential.
College-level understanding of computer networking concepts.
Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
English language: full proficiency for technical contexts (reading, writing, speaking, listening).
A strong sense of ownership about their work.
We prefer candidates who can work in-person in our office in Blumenau.
Proficiency with AI tools can be a differential but is not a substitute for these skills.
