About the role

DESCRIPTION

This is a role for someone who wants to own outcomes, not just track them. You'll embed directly with the sales leaders who own a public sector market, working backwards from their top priorities to decide where engineering can change the outcome - and getting a high-caliber engineering team into the room early, before problems become escalations. It's a seat with real access: you'll build trusted relationships with senior sales and solution leaders, shape what gets built, and see your work accelerate how governments, healthcare and research organizations, educational institutions, and mission-critical agencies adopt the cloud and AI.

What sets this role apart:

- You partner upstream with the leaders who own a market - working backwards from their biggest priorities rather than waiting for work to be handed down.

- You own a portfolio of engineering engagements end-to-end - from deciding what's worth building, through delivery, to handing a finished solution off to the customer or partner who will run with it.

You work at the intersection of Sales, Solution Architecture, and Engineering, and you're the one who drives where scarce engineering capacity creates the most impact.

- You measure success by scaled impact - solutions that many customers can reuse - not one-off projects.

You'll co-build alongside AWS service teams and partners on problems that genuinely can't be solved any other way, using AI both to accelerate how we build and to deliver AI-powered solutions to customers.

If you're customer obsessed, comfortable with ambiguity, and energized by turning "this can't be done" into "here's how we did it," we'd love to talk.

Key job responsibilities

- Anticipate where your verticals are heading and shape strategy, getting engineering involved early where it makes the biggest difference - including where AI is the critical path

Own the framework that decides which opportunities receive engineering investment when demand exceeds capacity, weighing scale, reuse, complexity, time-to-impact, and delivery risk

- Set and apply the bar that qualifies an engagement - scalability, reusability, multi-customer applicability, force-multiplier potential - and make the hard calls on those that don't clear it

- Work side by side with engineers through the build, making the architecture, scoping, and tradeoff decisions that determine success - you own the technical outcome, not just the schedule

Drive co-build execution hands-on with AWS Service Teams and Partners, applying AI to accelerate delivery and create reusable patterns that benefit many customers

Own delivery end-to-end from qualification through transfer, resolving technical and cross-team ambiguity without escalation

Keep leadership current on investments, outcomes, and realized impact

Influence peers and partner teams, and mentor less-experienced engineers and program managers

About the team

AWS Worldwide Public Sector Engineering (WWPSE) is a field-deployed engineering and AI team that unblocks top public sector priorities - helping partners scale, reinforcing AWS Service Teams, and building solutions that endure.

This is a hands-on delivery role, not a coordination one: you're in the build with engineers, making the technical calls, accountable for the outcome.
