A Snapshot
As a Finance Manager, you will report to the Senior Finance Manager - Japan and play a critical role in strengthening financial control, governance, and scalable finance processes across the Japan business during a period of rapid growth.
Working closely with Finance, Operations, and regional stakeholders across Japan, Sydney and Singapore, you will contribute to the development of a best-in-class finance function that supports business growth while maintaining strong financial discipline and governance.
This role offers broad exposure across financial control, capital project governance, business initiatives, and cross-functional finance activities. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of operational and strategic matters while developing the skills and experience required for future finance leadership opportunities.
Key aspects of the role include:
Supporting the continued growth of AirTrunk's Japan business through strong financial control and governance
Driving process improvement, simplification, and standardisation across finance activities
Acting as a key finance lead across accounting, finance operations, and capital project activities, balancing hands-on execution with effective review and oversight
Partnering with regional and local stakeholders on strategic and ad hoc business initiatives
Helping build scalable finance processes and controls to support a rapidly expanding organisation
Your Day to Day
Financial Control & Reporting
Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting
Review balance sheet reconciliations and maintain strong control over key financial accounts
Prepare and review journal entries, accounting analyses, and supporting documentation for significant or complex transactions where required
Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and financial governance requirements
Coordinate and support annual external audits across a large and growing portfolio of Japan entities, partnering with auditors, service providers and internal stakeholders.
Support statutory reporting and regulatory compliance activities across a growing portfolio of Japan entities
Review accounting analyses, statutory financial statements, tax deliverables and other outputs prepared by external advisers and service providers, applying sound professional judgement and challenge where appropriate
Assist with financing-related reporting obligations and board reporting requirements as needed
Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of financial reporting processes and controls to support an expanding legal entity structure
Capital Projects & Asset Governance
Support financial oversight of capital expenditure programs across Japan
Partner with colleagues across Finance and Operations to ensure appropriate governance over capital projects and construction-in-progress balances
Review asset classification and capitalisation assessments to ensure accurate accounting treatment
Support the management, review and reconciliation of construction-in-progress balances, partnering with finance operations colleagues to ensure timely capitalisation and accurate project accounting
Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of project accounting and capital management processes and controls
Business Growth & Strategic Initiatives
Partner with finance and business leaders on strategic projects, process improvement initiatives, and business expansion activities
Support implementation of new systems, processes, and operational frameworks as the business scales
Participate in cross-functional and regional initiatives that drive continuous improvement across the organisation
Act as a trusted finance partner across the business, providing analytical insights, practical advice, and financial support to stakeholders.
Support the Finance leadership team in evaluating new business opportunities, corporate initiatives, and organisational scaling requirements as the Japan platform continues to.
Requirements
8-12 years of relevant experience in accounting, audit, financial reporting, or financial control roles
Strong understanding of financial reporting, accounting principles, internal controls, and financial governance
Experience managing or auditing multiple legal entities, special purpose vehicles, funds, or complex corporate structures would be highly regarded
Experience gained within Big 4 audit, accounting advisory, transaction services, structured finance, real estate funds, or similar professional services environments is highly regarded
Ability to review and assess complex accounting analyses prepared by internal or external specialists
Experience working with externally managed accounting, fund administration, or service provider operating models would be advantageous
Experience within real estate, infrastructure, data centre, construction, or other capital-intensive industries would be advantageous, but is not required
Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and evolving business environment
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
Hands-on, proactive individual who is willing to take ownership and drive outcomes
Comfortable operating at both a strategic and detailed level, with a willingness to remain hands-on when required
Mature team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships across a diverse stakeholder group
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
CPA, CA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred
Fluent in both English and Japanese
