The Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of key accounting areas across the balance sheet, with a particular focus on lease accounting, inventory accounting, fixed assets, and related operational balances.

This role is primarily focused on accounting correctness, technical accounting judgement, and financial control.

The role requires a professionally qualified accountant with strong IFRS knowledge, the ability to interpret complex contracts, and the confidence to advise the business on appropriate accounting treatment. The Senior Accounting Manager will work closely with Group Accounting and Consolidation, Finance Managers, operational teams, and external auditors.

Key Responsibilities

Balance Sheet Ownership:

Own the accounting integrity of key balance sheet areas, including:

Fixed assets, including aircrafts and engines.

Right-of-use assets.

Lease liabilities and related lease accounts.

Inventory, including engine parts, general stock, and work in progress.

Direct and operational accruals and prepayments.

Maintenance-related balances, including maintenance reserves where relevant.

Ensure these areas are accurately recorded, reconciled, supported, and compliant with IFRS and internal accounting policies.

Lease Accounting:

Lead the accounting assessment and treatment of lease-in and lease-out arrangements, particularly relating to aircraft engines and aircraft.

Key areas include:

Reviewing and interpreting lease contracts.

Determining appropriate accounting treatment under IFRS, particularly IFRS 16.

Assessing lease modifications, extensions, terminations, variable lease payments, deposits, maintenance reserves, return conditions, and other lease-related balances.

Ensuring accurate accounting for right-of-use assets, lease liabilities, lease income, and associated balance sheet accounts.

Inventory and Fixed Asset Accounting:

Oversee the correct accounting treatment for significant asset and inventory balances.

This includes:

Accounting for aircrafts and engines held as fixed assets and leased out.

Accounting for engine parts held in inventory, including stock available for sale and work in progress.

Ensuring correct treatment of additions, disposals, transfers, depreciation, impairment considerations, and inventory provisions.

Supporting accurate classification between fixed assets, inventory, cost of sales, and operational expenses.

Technical Accounting and Business Advisory:

Act as a technical accounting advisor to finance and the wider business.

Responsibilities include:

Advising on accounting treatment where judgement is required.

Preparing accounting memos for significant transactions, estimates, or judgements.

Working with Group Accounting and Consolidation to agree accounting positions.

Supporting the implementation of new accounting standards, amendments, or group accounting policies.

Ensuring consistent application of IFRS and internal policies across relevant transactions.

Financial Close and Controls:

Support accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities for assigned accounting areas.

Responsibilities include:

Reviewing and approving accounting entries and reconciliations.

Ensuring balances are properly supported and documented.

Maintaining effective controls over assigned balance sheet areas.

Identifying and resolving accounting issues on a timely basis.

Driving improvements in accounting processes, documentation, and control quality.

Audit Leadership:

Act as a key point of contact for external auditors for the relevant accounting areas.

Responsibilities include:

Leading audit support for leases, inventory, fixed assets, accruals, prepayments, and related balances.

Explaining accounting treatments, estimates, and judgements to auditors.

Coordinating supporting documentation and responses to audit queries.

Supporting financial statement disclosures relating to assigned areas
