About the role
As a ServiceNow Engineer (f/m/d) for App Engine AI-Enabled Automation, you will design and develop workflow automation solutions on the ServiceNow platform, focusing on App Engine capabilities and AI-enabled use cases to support operational efficiency.
This role is embedded within an operations-focused squad, delivering scalable and maintainable automation solutions using ServiceNow Flow Designer, App Engine, and Integration Hub. You will work closely with business analysts and operational stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical implementations.
A key aspect of this role is to enable sustainable low-code development, supporting business users and citizen developers through reusable components, templates, and defined guardrails, while ensuring solutions remain compliant, secure, and aligned with enterprise standards.
This position will be based in Munich, Frankfurt, or Hong Kong.
What you will do
App Engine Development Workflow Automation
Design and develop workflow automation solutions using ServiceNow App Engine and Flow Designer
Maintain a strong understanding of the ServiceNow Core Platform, including data model, security model, workflows, integrations, and platform architecture
Configure and customize ServiceNow applications aligned with business and operational requirements
Build reusable components (flows, modules, templates) to support scalable and maintainable solutions
Ensure solutions are optimized for usability, performance, and long-term sustainability
AI-Enabled Automation
Implement AI-enabled capabilities within ServiceNow workflows (e.g., intelligent routing, automation recommendations, workflow enhancements)
Work with platform capabilities to enhance automation efficiency and decision-making
Ensure responsible and compliant usage of AI within enterprise workflows
Integration Connectivity
Design and implement integrations between ServiceNow and upstream/downstream systems using:
REST / SOAP APIs
Webhooks and event-based integrations
Integration Hub spokes and custom actions
Maintain and optimize existing integrations for reliability and performance
Implement monitoring, logging, and error handling for integration processes
Citizen Developer Enablement
Guide business users and citizen developers on best practices and usage of ServiceNow capabilities
Review and improve solutions to ensure alignment with platform standards and avoid technical debt
Promote sustainable and scalable development practices within the squad
Collaboration Delivery
Collaborate with business analysts, product owners, and stakeholders to define and deliver automation solutions
Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews)
Troubleshoot and resolve workflow, integration, and platform-related issues
Contribute to continuous improvement of development practices and delivery efficiency
Governance, Compliance Documentation
Ensure all solutions comply with:
Platform governance standards
Security and secure development policies
Regulatory and audit requirements
Produce and maintain technical documentation:
Solution designs
Architecture diagrams
Runbooks and operational guides
Support auditability, data integrity, and operational resilience of solutions
What you bring
3–5 years of hands-on experience in ServiceNow development, particularly in App Engine and workflow automation
Proven experience delivering end-to-end ServiceNow solutions in enterprise environments
Experience working in operations or business-facing squads is desirable
Exposure to low code / citizen development environments is a plus
Experience in regulated industries (e.g., financial services, insurance) preferred
Familiarity with Agile delivery models
Strong experience with:
ServiceNow App Engine and Flow Designer
Integration Hub (custom actions and spokes)
ServiceNow scripting (JavaScript, Business Rules, Script Includes)
Solid understanding of:
Workflow automation design patterns
API-based integrations (REST/SOAP)
Error handling, logging, and monitoring practices
Ability to design reusable and scalable ServiceNow solutions
Understanding of enterprise IT landscape, identity, and security concepts
Certifications (Recommended):
ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA)
ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD)
Integration Hub / Flow Designer Micro-Certifications
Additional CIS certifications are an advantage
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex integration and workflow issues
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
Collaborative mindset, with experience working closely with business analysts, process owners, and platform teams
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in parallel
Willingness to continuously learn and adapt as the ServiceNow platform and enterprise landscape evolve
Understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI), AI-enabled workflow capabilities within ServiceNow
Awareness of AI governance, ethical considerations, and responsible usage
Ability to apply AI features to enhance automation and operational efficiency
