Job Summary

The Senior Critical Facilities Engineer (Electrical) is a senior technical specialist responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and safe operation of mission-critical power infrastructure within the data center environment. This role provides technical leadership for electrical operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and incident response activities while supporting the continuous delivery of highly resilient services to customers.

Working with a high degree of independence, the engineer leads complex electrical maintenance activities, supports critical switching operations, identifies operational risks, and drives continuous improvement initiatives that enhance infrastructure reliability, safety, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

Facility / Infrastructure Maintenance

Operate, maintain, and support mission-critical electrical infrastructure, including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, transformers, PDUs, breakers, and associated distribution systems

Perform advanced preventive and corrective maintenance activities to ensure the reliability and availability of critical power systems

Lead electrical troubleshooting efforts and resolve complex infrastructure issues, minimizing operational risk and customer impact

Monitor the Building Management System (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), responding to alarms and identifying potential risks before service impacts occur

Lead and coordinate critical electrical operations, including maintenance windows, switching procedures, energization activities, and infrastructure recovery efforts

Conduct site inspections and assess the health and performance of electrical infrastructure, recommending corrective actions and reliability improvements

Support electrical capacity planning and load management activities to ensure infrastructure readiness for future growth

Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, operational efficiency, and energy performance

Site Administration

Prepare, review, and authorize technical documentation including Maintenance Operation Protocols (MOPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), and switching plans

Ensure maintenance activities are executed safely and in accordance with operational, regulatory, and company requirements

Maintain accurate infrastructure records, maintenance history, and operational documentation

Incident Management

Serve as a technical lead during electrical incidents, infrastructure failures, and power-related events

Provide guidance to on-site teams during incident response and restoration activities

Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) investigations and develop corrective and preventive action plans

Lead post-incident reviews and recommend improvements to operational processes and infrastructure resilience

Vendor Management

Manage and coordinate electrical service providers, contractors, and vendors performing maintenance and project activities

Review vendor work plans, technical proposals, and maintenance recommendations

Ensure work is performed in accordance with safety requirements, industry standards, and data center operational procedures

Work Orders & Capacity Management

Lead resolution of complex work orders and infrastructure-related requests

Support electrical capacity planning, power utilization analysis, and infrastructure growth initiatives

Provide technical reviews of customer power requirements and infrastructure impacts

Support commissioning, testing, and integration of new electrical systems

Collaboration

Act as a technical mentor to engineers and technicians, sharing expertise and supporting team development

Partner with Critical Facilities, Customer Operations, Security, Design & Construction, and vendor teams to deliver operational excellence

Identify underlying infrastructure issues and recommend long-term reliability improvements

Leverage internal and external technical resources to resolve complex electrical challenges

Additional Projects

Lead electrical infrastructure projects, including upgrades, capacity expansion, modernization, and reliability improvement initiatives

Support lifecycle management and replacement strategies for critical electrical assets

Participate in commissioning, integrated systems testing, and acceptance activities for new infrastructure deployments

Recommend and champion initiatives that improve uptime, reliability, safety, and operational efficiency

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline preferred

Minimum 5 years of experience operating and maintaining critical electrical infrastructure in data centers, utilities, industrial facilities, telecommunications, or other mission-critical environments

Preferred Skills & Experience

Strong experience with mission-critical power systems, including: UPS systems Diesel generators Switchgear and breakers Transformers Low- and medium-voltage distribution systems Power monitoring systems

Experience performing electrical switching activities, maintenance planning, and incident response

Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical faults and identify root causes

Experience leading maintenance vendors and coordinating infrastructure projects

Strong understanding of electrical safety practices, operational risk management, and permit-to-work processes
