Hexcel is currently seeking a Thermoplastics Lead Engineer for our Amesbury, MA location.
The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:
Design and prove out of thermoplastic tooling (Extrusion, Injection Molding, etc.)
Operation and troubleshooting of single/twin screw extruders and injection molders and assist in directing equipment repairs and upgrades
Assist operators with process improvements
Specifying new equipment, develop procedures and troubleshoot equipment as needed
Performing lab-scale and pilot-level compounding of new polymer / filler systems
Serve as SME for Thermoplastic Engineering projects and apply engineering principles across facility
Provided technical direction, coaching and development opportunities for direct/indirect reports
Act as bridge between the engineering/technical team and various department leaders to ensure streamlined technical integration
Drive production performance to meet customer demands.
Participate in customer meeting to capture requirements, provide technical insight and support the successful execution of NPI activities
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Plastics, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering (or closely related field) is required
5+ years of profile extrusion, or twin-screw compounding experience strongly preferred
Proficient in Solid Works and Solid Edge design software
Strong background in tooling design, mold flow analysis and DFM
Knowledge of manufacturing scale-up, process optimization and statistical methods (SPC and Six Sigma Concepts)
Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
Experience in Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma continuous improvement programs. Six Sigma Black Belt certification is a plus
Ability to manage capital projects is preferred
Experience with cost modeling, quoting, manufacturing routes and BOM’s is preferred
Must have the ability to obtain a DOD Security Clearance as well as be able to lift 50lbs
Complete salary range for this role: $76,550 – $135,000

Compensation
This Software Engineer role pays $77k-$135k/yr. Within typical range for software engineer roles in United States.
