Material Supply Strategist Position Summary

Develop and manage material fulfillment strategy and process for Supply Chain, between suppliers, warehouses and Field Operations. Responsible for tracking, monitoring, and reporting actual material needs and use against forecast. Analyze material performance and efficiency data as well as monitor effectiveness and accuracy. Proposes and implements corrective action for deficiencies. Utilize a demonstrated knowledge of supply chain concepts, activities and support functions, lead process improvement efforts throughout Supply Chain Operations; including identification of opportunities, data analysis, and the design and execution of repeatable processes to improve material availability and overall efficiency. Provide materials management for a portfolio of maintenance and construction projects assigned internal business unit. Provide materials management for a portfolio of construction projects with material budget up to $15M annually.

Essential Responsibilities

Manages and maintains working relationship with vendors, warehouse, buyers/planners, accounts payable, project managers, construction, engineering, and standards on the successful execution of material fulfillment activities. Works to resolve material fulfillment solutions based on job specifics and conditions. Advise on appropriate inventory levels and fulfillment strategies for assigned commodities by applying analysis and industry knowledge and insight to the trends being observed.

Working knowledge of supplier programs, manufacturing processes for commodities and highly engineering equipment. Ability to work with suppliers to fulfill corporation material needs. Coordinates and manages the logistics of on time deliveries to job sites or company facilities, including off-loading and receiving activities, QA/QC, and job staging as required. Basic understanding of use, form, fit, and function of materials. Perform ad-hoc data compilation and analysis functions to support the process.

Support material fulfillment process through data analysis, process flow mapping, leading pilot programs, and acting as a subject matter expect on behalf of business unit customers. Participate on cross-functional teams or projects for business area or supply chain initiatives. Ensure sourced material is in compliance with Xcel specifications, QA/QC requirements, safety standards and all applicable environmental regulations.

Intermediate knowledge of project planning and scheduling concepts, material fulfillment strategies and current industry trends. Represents Supply Chain at field level work management meetings. Tracks material fulfillment and replenishment needs in support of project and work area management schedule. Ability to manage materials for large projects. Influence processes and initiatives through data analysis, process flow mapping, leading pilot programs, and acting on behalf of Supply Chain or business unit.

Analyze, track, monitor, and report on forecasting and inventory planning information to identify opportunities and recommend improvements. Utilize reporting tools and analysis to support material delivery, material disposition, and material returns. Prepare reports and utilize reporting tools and analysis to support material fulfillment, delivery, disposition, and material return activities. Ability to provide work direction to specialists and associates in support of job material requirements.

Provide effective material processes and procedures to ensure accuracy and integrity of material information for use in analysis and decision support. Interface with field/project managers, buyers/planners on material discrepancies, QA/QC problems and recommend resolution with supplier. Act as business unit advocate by consulting with planners/buyers to ensure correct materials are available and ready when required.

Creates and maintains open communication with internal operations personnel to ensure an understanding of material fulfillment needs while providing an exceptional level of service throughout the material fulfillment and disposition processes. Create ad-hoc reporting related to material performance, levels, status inventory analysis, supply / demand in preparation for regular internal supply chain, business unit and vendor review meetings.

Participate on process improvement initiatives through partnering with other process participants, to successfully lower costs while continuing to improve service levels. Act as a change advocate on initiative teams.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Management, Business Administration, Engineering or Supply Chain.

2 years related experience (OR the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience providing equivalent knowledge)

Solid problem solving, organizational, teamwork, verbal and written communication skills

Previous experience with and working knowledge of inventory management, accounting principles, supply chain/logistics activities, Microsoft Office Suite products, and relevant software applications including SAP and Business Objects.

Preferred Requirements

Previous experience in plant operations, utility field operations, finance or business administration.

Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or equivalent.

Self-starter with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, and relevant software applications including SAP and Business Objects.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $70,000.00 to $90,000.00 per year
