Position is responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic care in Music Therapy as well as additional professional duties beyond the routine daily responsibilities. Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Education: Bachelor’s degree, Master’s Degree preferred, MT-BC

Licenses/Certifications:

CPR certification required; Must be board certified (MT-BC) through The Certification Board for Music Therapists, or eligible to sit for the certification exam, and have completed Neurologic Music Therapy training (NMT)

TIRR Specific Requirement: Complete training in suctioning, weight shifts, Positive Behavioral Support and transfers within ninety (90) days of employment

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

Experience in treating pediatric and adult persons with traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputee, stroke, musculoskeletal, pain management and pediatric diagnoses preferred; or internship specializing in the above diagnoses preferred

Clinical experience in treating individuals who have experienced trauma, physical or emotional, or changes in body image or physical functioning is preferred

Clinical experience in physical rehabilitation with a minimum of one (1) year experience preferred

Experience in treating patients in a wide age range from infant to adult preferred

Spanish-bilingual preferred

Able to work evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime as necessary

Able to demonstrate competency and a basic knowledge of age specific criteria in the patient populations served within the introductory period

Principal Accountabilities

Clear communication skills (oral and written).

Possesses ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks.

Competency assessed at least annually.

Evaluates and treats patients according to appropriate age group and diagnosis.

Serves as an educational resource on using therapeutic music activities with children and youth in the health care environment

Maintains all essential documentation.

Represents the Music Therapy department in interdepartmental activities.

Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty

Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.

Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.

Essential Physical Requirements

Provides weight shifts for patients, transfer patients and suction patients.

Possess stamina sufficient to maintain steady work pace and work extended hours when necessary.

Possess adequate motor ability, manual dexterity, and visual and auditory acuity to perform all evaluations and treatment procedures.

Independently transport a patient in a wheelchair.

Provides physical support as needed in gait-training, including lowering patient to the floor in an emergency.

Lift 20 pounds without assistance.

Reach, squat and/or bend while maintaining a good mechanical position of the body.

Predicts and physically respond immediately and appropriately in the work setting.

Manages physically aggressive or agitated patients.
