DESCRIPTION:

Join our manufacturing engineering team and make a meaningful impact on advanced technology and processes. As an Engineer II in Manufacturing Engineering, you'll support continuous improvement, ensure quality standards, and optimize production processes while collaborating with cross-functional teams. Lead technical projects and provide manufacturing support to help deliver innovative solutions that enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.

You will participate in new product introductions, process improvements, and equipment optimization initiatives. Using data-driven approaches and lean methodologies, you'll identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain the highest quality standards. Work closely with operations, quality, maintenance, R&D, and other teams to implement sustainable solutions that drive manufacturing excellence.

Rotating shifts:

Week 1 Monday-Friday: 06:00 – 14:00

Week 2 Monday-Friday:14:00 – 22:00

Job Purpose

The Shift Multi-Skilled Maintenance Craftsperson is responsible for delivering responsive and effective engineering support across the Bakewell Road site. Working across a two-shift pattern, the role ensures consistent daily engineering coverage, enabling rapid response to breakdowns, improved maintenance control, and enhanced operational performance.

This role replaces contractor dependency while strengthening internal capability, improving accountability, and supporting a more flexible and resilient engineering team structure.

Key Responsibilities

1. Reactive & Planned Maintenance

Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and production issues to minimise downtime.

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities in line with schedules.

Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system faults and implement effective solutions.

Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely and to a high standard.

2. Multi-Skilled Engineering Support

Provide hands-on support across mechanical and electrical systems.

Work on a wide range of production and site equipment.

Support installation, modification, and improvement of machinery and systems.

Collaborate with day engineers when required to support workload demands.

3. Site Coverage & Responsiveness

Maintain consistent engineering presence across both shifts to support operations.

Ensure effective handover between shifts, maintaining continuity of work.

Prioritise tasks based on production needs and operational impact.

Contribute to a flexible team structure, supporting cross-site or cross-team requirements when needed.

4. Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and maintainability.

Support improvement projects and small engineering upgrades.

Contribute to the development of standard maintenance practices.

Actively support implementation of a versatility matrix and flexible resource model.

5. Safety & Compliance

Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.

Identify hazards and support closure of safety actions.

Ensure all work complies with site standards and regulatory requirements.

6. Documentation & Reporting

Accurately record maintenance activities using CMMS or relevant systems.

Provide clear updates on ongoing issues and completed work.

Support tracking of recurring faults and reliability issues.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Multi-skilled capability (mechanical and electrical).

Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.

Experience working within a shift-based maintenance environment.

Desirable

Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent).

Experience with PLC fault finding (e.g., Siemens or similar systems).

Familiarity with CMMS systems.

Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Other REQUIREMENTS:

Relevant technical certifications or apprenticeships are valued

Strong knowledge of GMP, ISO standards, and regulatory requirements

Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies

Proficient in statistical analysis, root cause investigation, and problem-solving techniques

Strong project management abilities and experience leading cross-functional initiatives

Experience with engineering documentation, specifications, and change control processes

Expertise with CAD software, manufacturing systems, and data analysis tools

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work in cleanroom environments and comply with required PPE/gowning procedures

Available to work flexible hours and provide on-call support as needed

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and manufacturing software systems

Experience with automation, controls, and process validation preferred

Knowledge of equipment qualification and calibration processes

Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities

Ability to mentor and train manufacturing personnel

Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs with assistance
