Senior Systems Applications Engineer, Smart Grid Solutions

Position Overview

The Smart Grid Solutions team is seeking an experienced Systems Applications Engineer to help develop and deploy next-generation sensing, monitoring, and analytics solutions for the evolving electrical grid.

As a member of the applications team, you will play a key role in bridging customer needs with ADI technology and product development. Working across hardware and software domains, you will engage directly with customers, partners, and internal engineering teams to define requirements, develop proof-of-concept demonstrations, support system integration activities, and help commercialize innovative solutions.

The role is primarily focused on system-level hardware applications, including sensing, instrumentation, embedded platforms, and grid monitoring solutions. However, successful candidates must also be comfortable supporting software integration, configuration, and troubleshooting activities as customers deploy complete ADI solutions into their environments.

You will contribute throughout the product lifecycle, from early customer engagements and technology evaluation through proof-of-concept development, system validation, customer deployment, and production support. The role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges while working at the intersection of customers, products, and emerging energy technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and promote system-level solutions that address current and emerging customer challenges in electrical grid and energy applications.

Work directly with customers and partners to understand system requirements, deployment constraints, and application challenges.

Translate customer requirements into system architectures leveraging ADI hardware, software, and signal-chain technologies.

Design, prototype, evaluate, and troubleshoot hardware platforms used for proof-of-concept demonstrations and customer evaluations.

Support integration of ADI software platforms, embedded systems, and analytics solutions within customer environments.

Investigate and resolve complex technical issues spanning hardware, firmware, software, communications, and system-level interactions.

Support customer evaluations, field trials, and production deployments.

Collaborate with hardware, software, systems, and product engineering teams to identify solution gaps and drive future technology and product roadmaps.

Perform system validation and testing against customer requirements and relevant industry standards.

Develop technical documentation, application notes, reference designs, and demonstration systems.

Deliver technical presentations, demonstrations, and training to customers and internal stakeholders.

Build strong internal networks across ADI to create differentiated system-level solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering , Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.

5-10 years of industry experience in Systems Engineering, Applications Engineering, Product Engineering, or a related technical role.

Strong hardware background with experience in electronic system design, instrumentation, sensing, embedded systems, or power electronics.

Experience troubleshooting complex system-level issues across hardware and software boundaries.

Familiarity with embedded software, communications interfaces, and software integration activities.

Experience working directly with customers to define requirements and solve technical challenges.

Proficiency in Python, C/C++, MATLAB, or similar tools for analysis, debugging, and automation.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigation skills.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with electrical power systems, smart grid technologies, power quality monitoring, energy management systems, or utility applications.

Experience developing proof-of-concept systems and customer demonstrations.

Knowledge of industry standards relevant to grid monitoring, metering, or power systems.

Experience with PCB design, laboratory validation, and hardware bring-up.

Familiarity with cloud-connected systems, data analytics platforms, or industrial communications protocols.

Experience influencing product roadmaps through customer engagement and market feedback.

Enthusiasm, curiosity, willingness to learn, and a solid work ethic are valued more than any particular skill

Requirements

Ability to travel internationally to customer, partner, and ADI locations as required (approximately 20%).

Comfortable working in laboratory, industrial, and utility environments.
