WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Payroll Specialist I is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of multi-state U.S. and Canadian payrolls while ensuring compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local payroll regulations. This position requires strong Dayforce HCM experience within the last seven (7) years, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex payroll transactions, including garnishments, payroll taxes, mandatory payouts, statutory deductions, year-end processing, and payroll reconciliations. The Payroll Specialist I partners with Human Resources, Benefits, Finance, and employees to resolve payroll inquiries, maintain data integrity, and ensure compliance with all applicable payroll laws and company policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Process weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, and off-cycle payrolls using Dayforce HCM.

Maintain employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, direct deposits, tax elections, and deductions.

Audit payroll data for accuracy and resolve payroll discrepancies before payroll transmission.

Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, including federal and provincial payroll compliance requirements, mandatory payouts (vacation pay, statutory holiday pay, termination pay, and severance where applicable), payroll taxes, and statutory remittances.

Process garnishments, child support orders, levies, benefits deductions, and other voluntary and involuntary deductions.

Review and reconcile payroll reports, earnings, deductions, taxes, and general ledger interfaces.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and company policies.

Assist with quarter-end and year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing, payroll reconciliations, and payroll tax corrections.

Research and resolve employee payroll inquiries while providing exceptional customer service.

Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment while consistently adhering to strict payroll processing deadlines and maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Generate payroll reports and perform payroll audits to identify trends, errors, and process improvements.

Collaborate with HR, Benefits, Finance, and IT to support payroll system enhancements and testing.

Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and payroll information.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or equivalent experience preferred.

Five (5) or more years of payroll processing experience.

Strong hands-on experience using Dayforce HCM within the last seven (7) years.

Minimum of three (2) years of end-to-end Canadian payroll processing experience, including payroll compliance, mandatory payouts, and year-end reporting.

Experience processing multi-state payroll for high-volume employee populations.

Working knowledge of payroll taxes, garnishments, wage and hour laws, and payroll compliance.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).

Experience with payroll audits, payroll tax corrections, and year-end processing (W-2, W-2C, quarter-end reconciliations).

Experience supporting payroll audits, payroll system implementations, and continuous process improvements.
