About the role

Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects is seeking a licensed Professional Civil Engineer to join our Water Resources team in Phoenix, AZ. This role is ideal for a senior-level engineer or project manager with 15+ years of experience leading stormwater, drainage, flood control, and related water resources projects. The selected candidate will work in partnership with practice leaders, project managers, technical staff, and clients to deliver high-quality projects while supporting business development, mentoring, and continued growth of Wilson & Company’s water resources practice.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Manage planning, design, permitting, and construction-phase services for water resources projects, including stormwater drainage, flood control, hydraulic structures, detention facilities, erosion control, grading, and related civil infrastructure.

Lead project delivery from concept through completion, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk management, client communication, and coordination with internal and external project teams.

Perform and/or oversee hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, drainage studies, floodplain evaluations, stormwater modeling, drainage facility design, and preparation of technical reports.

Prepare and review engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, permit documents, design memoranda, calculations, and construction documents.

Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and task delegation to junior and mid-level engineers, EITs, designers, and CADD staff to support accurate, timely, and high-quality deliverables.

Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, agencies, municipalities, funding partners, regulators, contractors, and clients to support successful project execution.

Maintain positive client relationships and support business development efforts, including client visits, proposal preparation, scope development, fee estimates, interviews, and participation in local industry organizations.

Actively participate in Wilson & Company’s safety program and promote safe practices across project teams and field activities.

Required Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field.

15+ years of progressive experience in water resources engineering, including stormwater drainage, hydrology, hydraulics, floodplain analysis, drainage planning, and drainage facility design.

Licensed Professional Engineer required, with ability to obtain licensure in the state of practice within six months, if not already licensed.

Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads, or related design platforms is desirable.

Experience with drainage and hydraulic modeling software such as HEC-RAS, PC-SWMM, EPA SWMM, SRH-2D, FLO-2D, InfoWorks ICM, HY-8, FlowMaster, StormCAD, or similar tools.

Demonstrated ability to manage project delivery, including scope, schedule, budget, quality control, client communication, and coordination of technical staff.

Strong experience preparing and reviewing drainage reports, hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and permitting documents.

Proven ability to mentor technical staff and collaborate with professionals from various disciplines, backgrounds, and experience levels.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to maintain trusted client relationships and represent Wilson & Company professionally.

Existing relationships with municipal, transportation, flood control, or water resources clients in Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas, or the surrounding region are preferred.

Job Location: Phoenix, AZ

Salary: $145,000.00 - $195,000.00+ Depending on Experience
