About the Summer Vacation Program

At Thiess, we invest in future talent and provide vacation students with exposure to a world of experience and expertise. Our Summer Vacation Program offers you the opportunity to gain real life experience on an operational open cut coal mine, as part of our structured, 12-week paid program. You will gain valuable experience working on site and for some roles, experience living in remote and regional locations. Build your networks and relationships early in your career by working with experienced industry leaders.

The 2026 Thiess Vacation Program has opportunities in the following disciplines for 2nd and 3rd year students:

Mining Engineering

Surveying

Geology/Geotechnical

Environment

Mechatronic Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

Health & Safety

Human Resources

ICT

Finance

We are offering opportunities across our QLD, NSW and WA projects, however; this is an indication only and positions and locations are subject to change.

About You

Completing 2nd or 3rd year at university

Studying a degree within one of the above disciplines

Willing to work and relocate to site for the duration of the program

Available to work for the entire 12-week period

Ready to start your career in the mining industry

A holder of Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency

Ability to pass a pre-employment medical examination
