About the role

A Snapshot of Your Day

We are seeking an experienced Research and Development Engineer (m/f/d) to drive the development and deployment of innovative 3D machine learning applications, surrogate models, and digital twin solutions for multidisciplinary optimization (MDO) in turbomachinery. In this challenging role, you will shape modern, data-driven engineering methodologies and make a significant contribution to advancing efficient design and optimization processes within the gas turbine industry.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Development of 3D machine learning-based design tools and software applications for aerodynamics, heat transfer, mechanical integrity, and lifetime assessment

Development and validation of surrogate models and digital twins in accordance with user and project requirements

Creation of automation scripts and workflows for data preparation in multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) environments, as well as for model training, validation, and deployment

Integration of machine learning models into optimization loops and decision-support processes

Automation of engineering process steps wherever technically and economically beneficial

Collaboration with interdisciplinary engineering teams to support the development and implementation of data-driven solutions

What You Bring

Advanced academic background in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline, preferably with a Master's or PhD degree

Engineering software and programming expertise including development of design tools and applications, with strong Python, C++, Java, Git, and Linux skills

Machine Learning and data science competence covering ML model development, validation, deployment, and use of scientific computing frameworks such as NumPy, pandas, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and scikit-learn

Longstanding experience in turbine engineering and AI-enabled applications, including gas/aero turbine design, MDO workflows, digital twins, surrogate models, LLMs, AI, and ML solutions

Strong analytical and technical capabilities with expertise in statistics, mathematics, uncertainty quantification, database concepts, HPC environments, and cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS

Professional and personal effectiveness demonstrated through proactive self-management, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, API/service development experience, and eligibility to work under U.S. export control regulations

About the Team

Our Gas Services division offers Low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
