Location: Hematology & Oncology Associates of Fredericksburg Pay Range: $13.44 - $20.15

Position Summary

The Multi-Site Oncology Courier is responsible for the secure, time-sensitive transport of laboratory specimens, medications, chemotherapy-related supplies, records, and other materials between oncology clinic locations, reference laboratories, hospitals, pharmacies, and business offices. This role supports continuity of patient care across multiple sites by ensuring strict chain-of-custody, temperature control, and regulatory compliance standards are met at all times. The Courier operates across a defined multi-site region and must demonstrate reliability, discretion, and a high level of safety awareness.

Key Performance Areas

KPA 1 — Multi-Site Transport & Route Execution

Perform scheduled and on-demand pickups and deliveries between oncology clinics, labs, hospitals, infusion centers, and pharmacies.

Execute multi-site routes efficiently while meeting strict turnaround time requirements for oncology-related materials.

Verify items against manifests, requisitions, and transfer logs before transport.

Prioritize stat and temperature-sensitive deliveries.

Adjust routes based on urgent clinical needs and operational direction.

Maintain accurate delivery and pickup records, including signatures and electronic tracking.

KPA 2 — Oncology Specimen & Medication Handling Compliance

Transport blood, tissue, and other oncology specimens using approved biohazard and temperature-controlled containers.

Handle oncology medications and specialty pharmacy items in accordance with handling and security protocols.

Maintain chain-of-custody documentation for specimens and medications.

Follow OSHA, HIPAA, DOT, and hazardous material handling guidelines.

Ensure proper labeling, packaging integrity, and temperature controls are maintained during transit.

Immediately report variances, delays, temperature excursions, or package integrity concerns.

KPA 3 — Safety, Vehicle & Equipment Management

Operate company or approved personal vehicle safely across multi-site routes.

Conduct daily vehicle safety checks and maintain cleanliness and readiness.

Ensure transport coolers, lockboxes, and specimen containers are properly maintained.

Monitor and document temperature-control devices where required.

Maintain mileage, fuel, and maintenance logs.

Report accidents, incidents, or vehicle issues immediately.

KPA 4 — Inter-Site Coordination & Communication

Coordinate closely with clinic, lab, and pharmacy staff across multiple sites.

Provide status updates on pickups, deliveries, and delays.

Respond quickly to stat transport requests from oncology care teams.

Follow site-specific access and security protocols.

Use routing, dispatch, and tracking systems accurately.

Escalate operational or compliance concerns to management promptly.

KPA 5 — Patient Care Support & Confidentiality

Protect patient privacy and confidential health information at all times.

Securely transport medical records and protected documents.

Demonstrate understanding of the time-sensitive nature of oncology care materials.

Support continuity of care by ensuring dependable and consistent transport service.

Maintain professional conduct across all oncology locations.

KPA 6 — Customer Service & Professional Representation

Represent the oncology network professionally at all facilities.

Build positive working relationships with clinic and lab staff.

Demonstrate punctuality, accountability, and reliability.

Resolve routine delivery issues within scope and escalate when needed.

Support a service-oriented, team-based environment across locations.

Job Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or GED.

Minimum Relevant Experience

Minimum 2 years of courier, delivery, medical transport, or logistics experience.

Prior healthcare or oncology courier experience.

Experience handling laboratory specimens and temperature-sensitive materials.

Familiarity with chain-of-custody and biohazard transport procedures.

Experience with route optimization or dispatch systems.

Certifications / Licensure

Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

Skills

Knowledge of safe driving and defensive driving practices.

Understanding of medical specimen and medication handling requirements.

Strong time management and route planning skills.

High attention to detail and documentation accuracy.

Ability to work independently across multiple sites.

Travel: >75%
