Job Description Summary

"The Network Operations Technician supervises telecom fibre deployment, vendor work, and day-to-day network operations across the Data Centre campus.

Acting as the Client's eyes and hands onsite, the Technician monitors vendor progress and quality, and responds to fibre breaks and network incidents both on and off campus (e.g. construction-related cable damage). As this involves travel between sites, the role requires a personal vehicle."

Job Description

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise and report on telecom fibre deployment progress, including work at campus ingress, remote relay/fibre break locations, and ISP commissioning.

Monitor high-risk fibre route activity and supervise vendor work across multiple project locations, escalating risks and progress to stakeholders.

Provide onsite support during scheduled maintenance and change events

Monitor network alerts and respond promptly to incidents, providing first response and troubleshooting hardware, network, and connectivity issues.

Conduct preventive inspections and routine equipment checks, including in the core and supercore rooms, to reduce downtime and operational risk.

Receive fibre break alerts with coordinates, coordinate ISP repair dispatch, and physically attend to and repair dark fibre breaks, including Priority-1 cables.

Respond to network incidents both within and outside the Data Centre perimeter, such as construction-related fibre damage.

Assist network engineers with troubleshooting and root cause analysis

Oversee vendors working in live/supercore data halls.

Ensure adherence to SOPs, MOPs, and technical standards across all onsite work.

Monitor fibre connectivity between sites/buildings to maintain continuity of critical links.

Maintain on-call standby coverage and provide overtime support for after-hours incidents and major events, with shift schedules communicated in advance.

Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Methods of Procedures (MOPs) as well as technical standards.

Conduct routine equipment checks within the dedicated core room and supercore room (DCT) during the live operations (Day 2) phase.

Monitor dedicated fiber connectivity between different DCs/buildings to ensure continuity of critical links.

Maintain standby coverage and provide overtime support for after-hours incidents when necessary

KEY SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES

Effective communicator who collaborates well with stakeholders across functions and levels

Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of outcomes.

Solid working knowledge of data centre interconnectivity (metro connect), structured cabling standards, and the ability to read technical drawings and wiring diagrams.

Hands-on skillset for physical fibre troubleshooting

Flexible to support after-hours during incidents, and willing to travel across multiple sites (up to 40-50km apart), including outdoor/undeveloped conditions requiring PPE.

Must own a personal vehicle and be based in/near Johor Bahru (or able to relocate) to support site travel.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Minimum 3 years of relevant telecom/network/data centre experience, with the capacity to complete tailored training for the role.

Practical understanding of fibre splicing and working safely within manhole, vault, or handhole environments.

Familiar with telecom testing equipment (e.g. OTDRs, power meters) and standard testing procedures and metrics.

Strong communication skills; industry certifications such as ITIL are advantageous.
