About the role

About the team

ImageX turns raw sensor data into the imagery and elevation products that power TomTom's map of the world. We pull in aerial and satellite imagery, aerial lidar, vehicle-based lidar and vehicle traces, and turn them into the imagery layers and elevation models that make automated map generation possible - at global scale.

About the role

We're looking for a senior applied scientist to push our image processing and remote sensing work forward. You'll work across the full pipeline, from raw sensor data to production-scale map products, blending machine learning, traditional image processing and large-scale cloud engineering. You'll also bring fresh research into our world, adapting published techniques to the specific challenges of mapping the planet.

What You'll Do

Design and build image processing pipelines - combining machine learning and traditional computer vision - that turn raw sensor data into map-ready imagery products

Work across remote sensing data types: aerial and satellite imagery, aerial lidar, and digital elevation models (DEM, DTM, DSM)

Extract map information from street-level and aerial imagery

Process and reconstruct 3D scenes from lidar point clouds

Build batch ETL workflows on Azure and AWS that scale to world-scale compute

Read the latest research and adapt it to our data and problems, turning promising results into tools that measurably improve map quality

What You'll Need

Significant experience in image processing, computer vision or remote sensing, including shipping production systems

Strong Python skills, with hands-on experience in OpenCV

Experience working with lidar or point cloud data in 3D

Experience running batch processing workflows in the cloud (Azure Batch or similar)

A track record of reading research papers and turning them into working solutions on real, messy data

Comfort operating at global scale, where "edge cases" show up by the millions

What's Nice to Have

Experience generating DEM/DTM/DSM products

Background in photogrammetry or 3D reconstruction

Publications or open-source contributions in computer vision or remote sensing

What we offer

A competitive compensation package, of course.

Time and resources to grow and develop, including a personal development budget and paid leave for learning days, as well as paid access to e-learning resources such as O’Reilly and LinkedIn Learning.

Time to support life outside of work, with enhanced parental leave plus paid leave to care for loved ones and volunteer in local communities.
