As a Senior Rotating Equipment Specialist, you will provide enterprise-wide leadership and technical support to help operating facilities achieve high levels of rotating equipment reliability through a systematic, coordinated approach aligned with the Operational Excellence Management System OEMS. In this role, you will lead performance benchmarking and gap identification efforts, drive reliability improvement strategies, and work closely with subject matter experts and multidisciplinary teams to support troubleshooting, investigations, and technical programs.

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum 15 years of industry experience in rotating equipment engineering, including at least 10 years supporting refinery, upgrading, or petrochemical operations

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineer or a related discipline

Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers of Alberta APEGA

Extensive experience in the selection, installation, commissioning, condition monitoring, troubleshooting, major maintenance, and reliability improvement of rotating equipment, including pumps, oil sands ore preparation and extraction equipment, turbomachinery, and associated auxiliary systems

Strong knowledge of engineering practices and applicable international codes, standards, and specifications, including API (American Petroleum Institute) 610, 611, 612, 614, 617, 618, 682, 691, 692, and HI (Hydraulic Institute) standards

Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and drive improvements in rotating equipment performance at an enterprise level

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with site subject matter experts, operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to drive rotating equipment reliability initiatives and improve asset availability, safety, and cost performance across operating facilities

Develop, implement, and continuously improve enterprise rotating equipment reliability strategies, programs, and standards using fit-for-purpose principles that balance safety, reliability, operability, and cost

Provide technical consulting and expert guidance to operating sites on rotating equipment reliability, maintenance, performance issues, and emerging threats to asset health

Lead proactive reliability efforts by leveraging predictive and condition monitoring tools, including vibration analysis, lubrication monitoring, and compressor performance monitoring, to identify issues early and support timely corrective action

Analyze equipment performance data and site reliability metrics to identify improvement opportunities, prioritize actions based on risk and cost-benefit, and support performance reporting across the organization

Lead or participate in structured problem-solving and risk evaluation processes, including RCA (root cause analysis) bad actor elimination, risk assessments, and solution development for recurring or high-impact rotating equipment issues

Provide technical assurance and engineering review for major projects, including project proposals, detailed design packages, and turnaround planning, with a focus on critical machinery and turbomachinery lifecycle reliability

Maintain corporate technical specifications and technical authority practices for the rotating equipment discipline, support competency development and coaching across the network, and travel to operating sites as needed to provide proactive engagement and urgent operational support

Location and other Key details:

The position will be based at the Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Center at 150 – 6th Ave S.W

Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday with business travel to sites as required
