Diesel Mechanic

Sioux Area Metro (SAM) is South Dakota’s largest transportation provider. As a Diesel Mechanic at SAM by Via, you will perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on buses, automotive equipment, and shop equipment. What You’ll Do:

Direct highly varied and complex operations related to vehicle and equipment service

Repair and/or replace any subsystem associated with heavy, medium, and/or light duty SAM coaches and automotive equipment

Work with other maintenance workers, drivers, and transportation supervisors

Maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors

Who You Are:

Possess knowledge of the design, adjustment, operation, maintenance, and repair of systems and subsystems of SAM coaches and related shop equipment

Able to work on their feet eight hours per day, lift 100 pounds, and carry parts, equipment, and supplies

Possess excellent manual dexterity

High school diploma or GED equivalent, including trade or vocational school. Additional training at manufacturer’s schools, courses, or seminars is a plus.

Hold a valid SD driver’s license

Able to obtain a CDL permit

Able to pass a pre-employment physical

Pass a drug screening and background check: no felonies, clean MVR, no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions, and no more than 2 speeding tickets

Mechanic class (AA, A, B, and C) will be assessed during the interview process.

Compensation and Benefits

Final salary will be determined by the candidate’s experience, knowledge, and skills.

Salary Range: up to $37 per hour, depending on experience.
