The Opportunity

Position Summary:

The Mental Health Support Worker is an unregulated member of the interdisciplinary team who provides targeted therapeutic programming under the supervision of an allied health professional. This role works in collaboration with the healthcare team and supports the client’s goals by delivering assigned interventions that enhance their ability to function within

their psychosocial environment, improve their mental health, and promote overall well-being.

The position operates as a part of the allied health team which may be composed of Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Social Work, Psychology, and Recreation Therapy. The team collaborates with the client and their support system, to formulate a care plan. The Mental Health Support Worker participates in the collaboration and performs assigned interventions under the direction of the most appropriate allied health professional.

In keeping with Carewest’s Frame of Reference, Philosophy of Care, and Carewest policies this position maintains professional and ethical standards at all times. This position reports to the Director of Care for performance and employment matters. Responsible for other related duties as instructed and overseen by the Director of Care.

Program summary:

Complex Care – for frail seniors who require the care of an interdisciplinary team to maintain and improve quality of life in safe, comfortable and supportive environments. Carewest offers a mix of secured and unsecured units.

Qualifications & Experience:

Diploma/Certificate in Community/Mental Health, Aboriginal Studies or other healthcare field.

2+ years experience in a mental health setting, including working within a multidisciplinary team.

Strong observational skills and ability to respond to promote client safety through effective de-escalation techniques.

Experience with Supportive Crisis Intervention and Trauma Informed Care.

Experience implementing evidence-based practices in mental health care, including strengths-based approaches, pro-attention plan, behavioral modifications, recovery, and risk management.

Demonstrates strong communication, collaboration, and conflict management skills along with the ability to self-reflect and emotionally regulate in high stress situations.
