We are now looking for an experienced and enthusiastic KS3 and GCSE Maths Tutor to join our expanding team.

The Role

As an Online KS3 and GCSE Maths Tutor, you will plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons that reflect each student’s ability, learning needs and academic goals.

You may provide tuition through one or more of the following services:

One-to-One Tuition

Personalised lessons designed around an individual student’s strengths, knowledge gaps, learning style and academic targets.

Small-Group Tuition

Interactive lessons for small groups of students working at a similar level. Tutors must maintain engagement while ensuring that each student receives appropriate support.

Exam Booster Tuition

Focused GCSE revision sessions designed to strengthen weak areas, develop exam technique, improve time management and prepare students for assessments and final examinations.

Free Trial Lessons

Tuition To Advance offers prospective students an initial 30-minute free trial lesson. This allows the student and parent or guardian to experience the tutor’s teaching style before committing to ongoing lessons.

Tutors must be comfortable delivering welcoming and engaging trial lessons, assessing the student’s current level and briefly explaining how future tuition could support their progress.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging online Maths lessons for KS3 and GCSE students.

Teach in accordance with the UK National Curriculum and relevant GCSE specifications.

Adapt lessons to suit different abilities, learning styles and academic goals.

Identify knowledge gaps and develop targeted learning plans.

Support students with homework, school assessments, revision and examination preparation.

Explain mathematical concepts clearly and patiently.

Develop students’ problem-solving, reasoning and exam-technique skills.

Set and review homework or independent practice where appropriate.

Maintain accurate lesson notes and student progress records.

Provide constructive feedback and progress updates when required.

Communicate professionally with students, parents and the Tuition To Advance team.

Attend scheduled lessons punctually and maintain reliable availability.

Follow all safeguarding, online safety, data protection and professional conduct requirements.

Availability Requirements

Tutors can manage their own availability and choose the hours they are able to offer. However, applicants must:

Be available for a minimum of 10 hours per week.

Be able to offer lessons during weekday evenings.

Be willing to offer weekend availability.

Maintain an accurate and reasonably consistent teaching schedule.

Provide advance notice when changing or reducing their regular availability.

Weekday evenings and weekends are our highest-demand teaching periods, so applicants who can provide strong availability during these times will be particularly suitable.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must have:

A minimum of three years’ experience teaching or tutoring Maths within the UK curriculum.

Strong knowledge of the KS3 and GCSE Maths curriculum.

A relevant degree, teaching qualification or subject-related professional qualification.

Experience supporting students with GCSE Maths examinations.

The ability to teach mathematical concepts clearly and effectively.

Strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.

A professional, patient and encouraging teaching approach.

An Enhanced DBS certificate or the ability to obtain one before teaching students.

The right to work in the United Kingdom.

A reliable computer or laptop, stable internet connection, working camera and clear microphone.

A quiet, professional and appropriate environment for delivering online lessons.

The ability to use online teaching platforms and digital learning resources.

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous:

Qualified Teacher Status.

A degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Education or another relevant subject.

Experience teaching Maths in a UK secondary school.

Familiarity with AQA, Pearson Edexcel and OCR examination boards.

Experience teaching both GCSE Foundation and Higher Tier Maths.

Experience delivering online tuition.

Experience teaching small groups.

Experience preparing students for GCSE examinations, resits or entrance assessments.

Examiner, assessment or curriculum-development experience.

This is a self-employed position. Tutors are responsible for managing their own tax, National Insurance and other obligations relating to self-employment.

Recruitment ProcessStage 1: Application

Stage 2: Video Interview

Applicants whose experience and availability match our requirements will be invited to a 30–45-minute video interview.

The interview will explore your experience, teaching approach, curriculum knowledge, availability, safeguarding awareness and suitability for online tuition.

Stage 3: Teaching Demonstration

Candidates who successfully complete the first-stage interview will be invited to deliver a 20–30-minute online teaching demonstration to a member of the Tuition To Advance team.

The demonstration will be used to assess:

Subject knowledge.

Clarity of explanation.

Lesson structure.

Student engagement techniques.

Use of examples and questioning.

Online presentation skills.

Ability to check understanding and respond to misconceptions.

Stage 4: Verification and Onboarding

Successful candidates will receive a conditional offer and begin the onboarding process.

Appointment will be subject to the satisfactory verification of all required documentation, which may include:

Proof of identity.

Right-to-work documentation.

Qualification certificates.

Enhanced DBS documentation.

Professional references.

Tutor profile information.

Signed agreements and company policies.

Tutors may only begin receiving student assignments after all required checks and onboarding documents have been completed and approved.
