About Tuition To Advance
Tuition To Advance is a growing UK online tuition provider supporting students across KS3, GCSE and A-Level.
We are looking for an experienced KS3 and GCSE Science Tutor to deliver high-quality one-to-one, small-group and exam booster lessons online.
The Role
You will deliver engaging and structured Science lessons based on each student’s ability, learning needs and academic goals.
Lessons may include:
KS3 Science.
GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Combined Science and Triple Science.
Foundation and Higher Tier support.
Homework, revision and exam preparation.
You will also monitor student progress, identify knowledge gaps and communicate professionally with students, parents and the Tuition To Advance team.
Free Trial Lessons
New students receive an initial 30-minute free trial lesson to experience the tutor’s teaching style before booking ongoing tuition.
Tutors should use the trial to assess the student’s level, deliver a short sample lesson and explain how ongoing tuition could support their progress.
The initial 30-minute trial lesson is unpaid. Payment begins when the student books and completes a paid lesson.
Availability
Tutors can manage their own availability but must offer at least 10 hours per week.
Applicants must be available to teach during:
Weekday evenings.
Weekends.
These are our busiest teaching periods.
Providing 10 hours of availability does not guarantee 10 hours of booked lessons. Assignments depend on student demand, availability and tutor suitability.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging KS3 and GCSE Science lessons.
Teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics in line with the UK curriculum.
Support Combined Science and Triple Science students.
Identify knowledge gaps and adapt lessons accordingly.
Improve students’ confidence, scientific understanding and exam technique.
Support students with calculations, required practicals and scientific terminology.
Set and review homework where appropriate.
Maintain lesson notes and progress records.
Attend lessons punctually and reliably.
Follow safeguarding, online safety and data protection policies.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
At least three years’ experience teaching or tutoring Science within the UK curriculum.
Strong knowledge of KS3 and GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Experience preparing students for GCSE Science examinations.
A relevant degree, teaching qualification or subject-related qualification.
A valid Enhanced DBS certificate.
The right to work in the UK.
Strong communication and lesson-planning skills.
A reliable computer, stable internet connection, camera and microphone.
A quiet and professional online teaching environment.
Experience with AQA, Pearson Edexcel and OCR examination boards is desirable.
Pay and Contract
The initial rate is £15 per completed paid teaching hour, with no platform commission deducted from the stated rate.
The following are unpaid:
The initial 30-minute student trial lesson.
The recruitment interview.
The teaching demonstration.
This is a self-employed position. Tutors are responsible for their own tax, National Insurance and other self-employment obligations.
Tutor rates may be reviewed based on performance, reliability, student feedback, qualifications and student retention.

2. Video Interview
Suitable candidates will be invited to a 30–45-minute video interview covering their experience, teaching approach, availability and safeguarding awareness.
3. Teaching Demonstration
Successful interview candidates will deliver a 20–30-minute online teaching demonstration to a member of our team.
4. Verification and Onboarding
Successful candidates will receive a conditional offer, subject to the satisfactory verification of:
Identity and right-to-work documents.
Enhanced DBS certificate.
Qualifications.
Professional references.
Required agreements and company policies.
Tutors can begin receiving student opportunities after completing the onboarding process.
