Senior SAP Technical Specialist

New Plymouth, Tauranga or Wellington

Permanent - Full-time

At Powerco, we're delivering the systems and technology that support one of New Zealand's largest electricity and gas distribution networks. We're looking for an experienced SAP Technical Specialist to play a key role in supporting, maintaining and continuously improving our SAP landscape while helping deliver our transition from SAP S/4HANA 2020 to SAP S/4HANA 2025.

This is a unique opportunity to work across operational support, technical optimisation, security, integrations, environment management, and major SAP change initiatives in a modern SAP RISE environment.

About the role

As our SAP Technical Specialist, you'll provide advanced Level 2 and Level 3 support across Powerco's SAP environment, ensuring our systems remain stable, secure, high performing and available to support both day-to-day operations and strategic projects. Working closely with SAP functional consultants, security specialists, integration teams, vendors and SAP RISE service providers, you'll resolve complex technical issues, support users, manage technical changes and contribute to the ongoing reliability and performance of our SAP landscape.

You'll play a key role in maintaining and enhancing our SAP platform by troubleshooting complex incidents, managing user access and authorisations, and supporting system performance across development, testing and production environments. You'll also support releases, upgrades and environment changes while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. Alongside this, you'll help ensure our SAP landscape meets security, governance and compliance requirements, supporting operational readiness, disaster recovery and audit activities.

Skills & Experience

To successfully carry out the role, you will bring:

Awesome basis skills.

Extensive SAP application support experience in a business-critical environment.

Strong SAP administration and technical support capability within SAP S/4HANA and/or SAP HANA environments.

Hands-on experience with SAP roles and authorisations, access management, and troubleshooting security-related issues.

Experience with SAP monitoring, performance analysis, transport management, incident resolution, and operational support.

Experience supporting non-production environments, system refreshes, and technical change activities.

Strong analytical, documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

The ability to balance operational support responsibilities with project delivery requirements.

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical troubleshooting skills with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset. You'll be a natural collaborator who brings the right people together to resolve issues, communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and keeps everyone informed along the way. Calm under pressure and accountable in your approach, you'll thrive in a fast-paced support environment where delivering great service is second nature. You'll also have a passion for continuous improvement, automation and operational excellence, and enjoy sharing your knowledge to help build capability across the team.
