Group Leader, Electrical Engineering

Stantec’s Buildings team in New Zealand delivers end-to-end projects for our clients, from feasibility and design through to construction, commissioning, and operation. Specialising in mission-critical facilities such as data centres and healthcare, our team of 100 brings expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, fire, electrical and sustainability engineering to a growing domestic business with a large local project portfolio. About the role :

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an accomplished Electrical Engineering group leader to shape the direction, performance, and growth of Stantec’s Electrical Engineering group in our NZ Buildings business. You’ll lead a talented, market-aligned team delivering complex building services projects, while playing a visible role in client relationships, winning work, technical excellence, and the development of our people.

Working closely with Team Leaders, technical specialists, Project Managers and senior business leaders, you’ll help connect the right expertise to the right opportunities and ensure the group is well positioned for current and future work. This includes balancing resourcing and utilisation, supporting project delivery, contributing to proposals and client engagement, and creating an environment where people are supported to do their best work and continue building their careers.

You’ll bring a strong technical foundation in electrical engineering, combined with commercial awareness, people leadership, and client focus needed to help grow a high-performing, collaborative and future-ready team.

Day to day tasks would involve:

Lead, support and develop a talented Electrical Engineering group, creating a collaborative environment where people can grow, deliver great work and build clear career pathways.

Provide senior technical leadership on complex building services projects, helping guide design outcomes, resolve technical challenges and support high-quality project delivery.

Work closely with Team Leaders, technical specialists and Project Managers to plan resources, manage workloads and ensure the right capability is aligned to the right opportunities.

Play an active role in client relationships, pursuits and proposals, including contributing technical input, supporting interviews and helping position Stantec for future work.

Support business planning, utilisation, backlog and performance outcomes for the group, while helping identify opportunities for collaboration and work sharing across regions.

Champion quality, innovation, safety and continuous improvement, ensuring our work reflects Stantec’s standards, values and commitment to exceptional client service.

Partner with leaders across the business to foster an inclusive, supportive and high-performing culture where people feel connected to the direction of the team and the wider organisation.

To be successful for this role you'll need:

Must have previous experience in a Building Services Consulting environment in New Zealand or Australia

Significant relevant and demonstrated experience in people and team leadership

Tertiary Engineering qualification

Chartered (or equivalent) status with relevant national industry body, or working towards, is highly regarded

10 years’ professional experience in Electrical engineering
