About the Role

The Associate Clinical Nurse Manager (ACNM) fosters a safe and effective practice environment by providing strong clinical and professional nursing leadership. This includes coaching staff, monitoring standards of practice, and role modelling best practice. The position requires advanced clinical knowledge and judgement, with the ability to provide direct patient care when needed.

The Medical Ward at Hutt Hospital offers a supportive and collaborative work environment. You will be well supported by the Clinical Nurse Manager, a team of experienced ACNMs, and specialist nurses, including the Stroke Clinical Nurse Specialist and Complex Discharge Specialist Clinical Nurses.

This role is highly team-focused. You will lead and coordinate a dedicated team of nurses and healthcare assistants to deliver high-quality patient care. Working closely within a multidisciplinary team (MDT), you will help maintain patient flow and ensure timely, safe discharges to achieve Ministry of Health targets, such as shorter stays in ED.

About the Team / Service Location

This position is based in the Medical Ward at Hutt Hospital. The ward is a 54-bed unit providing secondary general medical inpatient services for patients aged 15 years and older. Services include diagnosis, assessment, treatment, management, and appropriate referral for acute, sub-acute, and chronic medical conditions, including complex multi-system disorders.

We also provide care for patients at end of life, including those who wish to access Assisted Dying but are unable to do so in the community.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate strong communication, clinical leadership, and collaborative skills, along with:

Minimum of three years' experience in a Medical Ward setting

A current Nursing Annual Practising Certificate

Strong motivation and enthusiasm, with the ability to lead and inspire others

Excellent organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to multitask and perform under pressure

Sound clinical judgement and decision-making ability

Effective communication skills with a wide range of MDT members and stakeholders

A commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, auditing, and continuous service improvement, with a proactive approach to problem-solving

The ability to manage staff coordination, patient flow, and support the training and development of junior staff

A high level of professionalism and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships

Openness to innovation and new ways of working

A postgraduate certificate desired, expectation to work towards a post graduate diploma

Current Proficient PDRP status or working towards this, and need to attain or maintain Senior PDRP

Understands the significance and obligations of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and supports leadership of these within the service
